Ever wondered what you'd get if you crossed the star-crossed lovers storyline of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with Twilight? Well, what you do get is Netflix's new supernatural teen drama First Kill - which is based on VE Schwab's short story of the same name.

Juliette Fairmont (Sarah Catherine Hook) is a teenage legacy vampire. Legacy means she was born a vampire, can go out in the sunlight, see her reflection in a mirror and a simple wooden stake to the heart won't kill her.

Calliope Burns (Imani Lewis), or Cal as she prefers, is the new girl in town. She is part of The Guardian Guild - a group of monster hunters/killers.

Both teenagers are of the age where they need to make their first kills in order to prove themselves. They find themselves attracted to each other, before finding out - in the most interesting way - that both are what the other should fear!

Add to this both sets of parents are pressuring the girls to not only complete their first kills - but to stay away from each other. Further drama gets thrown in when Juliette's exiled brother Oliver (Dylan McNamara) returns to Savannah at Juliette's presentation, with his witch lover - his true intentions not revealed until the closing of the final episode. Feelings between the main characters are also tested when Juliette accidentally turns Cal's brother Theo (Phillip Mullings Jr) into a vampire - also putting pressure on Cal's family.

To be honest, watching the first episode - I wanted more - a few of the episodes in the middle almost had me turning off completely but I perused the show until its end and I am interested to see where this story goes. Unless there is an expansion of the main premise though, I wonder how this show can continue after a second season.
