Having an infant that screams 'Ni naa ni naa" as soon as he passes the local fire station, it's quite fitting to know that Fire & Rescue NSW is holding its annual open day this Saturday 18th May 2019 at fire stations across NSW.
I want to be a firefighter.
Fire Stations across the state will be open from 10am to 2pm giving NSW residents, especially children, a chance to meet their local firefighters, see fire engines and firefighting equipment up close. Visitors will have the opportunity to hop on a fire truck and chat with firefighters to learn more about what they do every day.
A range of free activities will be on offer including firefighting demonstrations, station tours and fire safety presentations, including advice about installing smoke alarms, changing smoke alarm batteries and preparing a home fire escape plan.
With my firefighter enthusiast in tow, I find that it's a great day out for the whole family, not just for little ones. Older kids and even adults will learn about the inner workings and the history of the local fire station.
Please note that some fire stations will be closed or participating at a neighbouring fire station. Or you may get to your fire station on Open Day and it is closed while responding to an emergency. The station officers will leave a note on the door if this happens, to let you know.
