Red hot fun these holidays
Are you camping on the beach these holidays? The art of fire twirling is best appreciated in a beach environment.

It is generally believed that fire dancing originated with our close neighbours in Samoa. Across the world, fire dancing has become an increasingly popular entertainment genre.

Beautiful fire dancing patterns

It's hard not to be hypnotised by the playful fire as it swirls and streaks through the night sky.

Depending on the skill of the dancer, beautiful patterns can be created by repeating set movements (see photos).

Amazing Fire Twirls

Fire dancers usually start by mastering the Poi - a chain with two bundles of wick material at each end that are swung from the middle of the chain.

The fire stick or staff is a harder but equally impressive tool and can be thrown into the air by the fire dancers as part of their routine.

Afterwards, a well earned drink by the camp fire is welcomed.

Safety Note: Always be careful when working with fire. Fire Poi are dipped in flammable liquid, usually kerosene, and can cause burns. Always stand well clear of performers and learning fire twirling should always be under the supervision of someone of experience. It is not recommended for children. Glow in the dark practice Poi can be used by children, that are not actually lit.
