Entitled Fire and Ice: Modernist Icelandic Landscapes this exhibition features a stunning collection of Modernist artworks inspired by Ciel's two recent odysseys to Iceland - in June 2016, Ciel went hiking in the Highlands under the Midnight Sun, and again in March 2017, she visited the West Fjords for the Northern Lights.
Rich and vivid, these beautiful images of the mountains and fjords and the wonderful Icelanders themselves display Ciel's natural artistic talent and playful nature. Ciel notes that she was particularly enamoured with the rich Norse heritage and culture of the Icelandic people, "I really enjoy painting my 'people', whom to me are very real characters, even if we only met in a dream, and I know them well. In the future I would like to explore my response to the stimuli of other senses such as taste, or sound, to visualise these folk.
The result is a charming collection of artworks, highlighted with amazing colour and texture. From the dream-like portraits, which distil the Icelandic people Ciel met, to the awe-inspiring snow-tinged mountains with ravens flying high above, Ciel captures the essence of Iceland and its people.
