Battling a list of food intolerances as long as your arm? Special dietary requirements getting you down? Eating gluten-free and dairy-free can present real challenges, but Finiky Patisserie at Taringa tackles them with aplomb.

Among the ever-changing goodies on display in a chock-a-block glass cabinet are things you'd never be able to eat again. Think salted caramel doughnuts, tarts (such as the delectable pear and apple frangipani pictured above), chocolate coconut roughs, bliss balls, slices laden with lemon curd, white chocolate raspberry blondies, coconut raspberry muffins and banoffee pies.

But it's not all about the sweet stuff. Finiky Patisserie also offers a changing and ever-expanding array of savoury dishes for owners of rumbling tummies looking for lunch. These include seasonal salads, pizzas, foccacia, muffins, sausage rolls, bagels, arancini balls and spicy Indian pasties. Pies are also popular, with varieties including steak and wine, creamy chicken and garlic, or simple shepherd's topped with spirals of mash.

Even the beverages deliver a star turn, with coffee from Blackstar, tea from Somage Fine Foods or hot chocolate from Heirloom Chocolate. And, yes, as you'd expect, there are a range of dairy-free milk alternatives, including soy, almond and rice.

Finiky Patisserie is the creation of Lisa Trickey who is herself is allergic to a range of food and ingredients, ranging from baker's yeast to avocado. A small and select team with Lisa at the helm makes all food on the premises, according to recipes she's adapted herself through a process of trial and error.

But you don't need to have food allergies and sensitivities to enjoy eating here. This flavoursome food is appealing to all palates and, to paraphrase a vintage cereal ad, 'It doesn't just taste good, it's good for you'.
