Brunswick West has not quite reached the ranks of Brunswick and Brunswick East with their cool cafes and bars but we are trying as hard as possible. Now the arrival of Fine and Dandy Foodstuffs has certainly raised the game.
I have been waiting patiently on this new cafe opening, trying to peer in the windows as work was being completed. The other day I noticed that doors were open and tables and chairs were placed outside. Lucky for Sue, the owner, I was out on the hunt for a coffee and took my first trip inside. (This is no mean feat in Brunswick West).

The cafe is small and perfectly furnished with super pretty vintage pieces in luxury wood and bright colours. It's appropriately accessorised with novelty salt and pepper and high end fashion and home ware magazines. First impressions really do matter; I was dying to have a coffee, sit at the big wooden table and leisurely browse through magazines, which I did. I also lusted after the home made cakes as well as the home wares in the magazines.
When I woke up this morning, I honestly could not get the image and smell of those cakes out of my head. I decided another trip was in order. I had to taste one of those cakes for my breakfast and so I did. I had the delightful bread and butter pudding and it was a party in my mouth. It was the perfect texture, moist and full of flavour. This lady has talent.
She has a very pretty website, and I quote 'Many of my earliest family memories are grounded in the food I enjoyed at that time and I have been cooking and preparing food for other people for as long as I can remember. This approach is what Fine & Dandy Foodstuffs wants to pass on to our customers.' And this she delivers.
Of course, it is early days but let's hope this is giving Brunswick West the injection of cool and cudos we so dearly need.
