Come along and join the conscious shopping revolution, meet the makers, and invest back into your community by shopping small and local. The size of the venue harks to just how many wonderful creatives and designers you are going to meet, not to mention the amazing creations and handmade goodies they have on hand for you. If you're looking for something unique and special for that someone special, this is the place you're bound to find it.
Finders Keepers have been leading the conscious shopping marketplace and have been ahead of the go-slow movement for more than a decade. More people are interested in meeting their makers and investing back into the community by shopping small and local. This year the market has partnered with Aboriginal Melbourne and City of Melbourne to expand their Indigenous Program during NAIDOC Week and as such you'll find 20 First Nations-owned and led small creative businesses at the Melbourne Market this year!
Bringing a whole bunch of me made magic to the Melbourne/Naarm Markets is slow clothing label Maker & Mineral! Created by San Francisco native Samantha Ives, this ethically hand-crafted label is known for its two-toned linen garments (as you can see above) and patchwork colour combinations. Find out more about this label via the creative catch up with the maker blog here.
Amongst a whole crop of debut designers in this creative community is Italian illustrator Eleonora Arosio with her bright, playful images (last image below) and artworks. To find out more about Eleonora's creative journey and get a sneak peek at what you can expect to find at her stall, see here. With a maker lineup from A to Z you'll be spoilt for choice.
Amongst the Indigenous lineup you'll find a range of Deadly Wears and other clothing brands who make their clothes with Mob in their hearts and everyone in mind. Some are focused on Heal Country NAIDOC and others produce merch with meaning, and encourage people to wear their values on their tee. Gammin threads on the other hand was born from the love of typography, language and blak pride. They concentrate on deadly chillwear and accessories for people who believe in living colourfully, paying respect to and empowering women.
More than clothing, you'll find, art, bold jewellery, jewellery made with native seeds, children's wear, ancient Victorian aroma products that have been passed down from generation to generation, Southeast Aboriginal Art inspired by Song lines and stories of Taungurung cultural heritage and more. If you can't wait for the market or can't get to the market, which would be a shame as it's always best to see it firsthand, there's always the Online Marketplace. An event not to be missed, be sure to scour all the given links and get those dates in your diary so you don't miss out.
