The Finders Keepers Melbourne Market: Spring/Summer 2013
The Finders Keepers markets are back with a vengeance and are ready to take on Melbourne with a plethora of new designs and crafty artiness, as they have proudly been doing since 2010.
Venue
The bi-annual markets will be be held once again this spring at Melbourne's own
Royal Exhibition Building , next to the Melbourne Museum in Carlton Gardens. There are ample
public transport options , which are encouraged due to limited parking space. The location can also be reached via bike lanes and there is a bicycle rack just outside the Melbourne Museum.
Stalls
For an evening and a day, the vibrant market will be showcasing selected talents from the Australian independent art and design scene. From homewares to jewellery passing through everything that is art for art's sake.
Have a
peek at the impressive round-up of stallholders scheduled for this edition, including a number of new and debut artists and designers.
Music
Part of the signature style of the markets is to have a festival feel, and you can't have a festival without music. Here's a bit of background info on some of the musicians scheduled for this edition:
Great Earthquake - Meet Noah Symons, renaissance man, one-man-band, barista. As Great Earthquake he released his first full-length album Drawings in May 2012 and is currently working on its follow up.
Sui Zhen - Becky Sui Zhen is a musician and creative producer from Sydney. You can get a taste of her unique style on
SoundCloud or take a dive into her creative world on
Vimeo .
The Weeping Willows - Andy Wrigglesworth and Laura Coates are a couple of self-proclaimed "old souls" from bluegrass tradition. See what happens when love and musical talent come together in the
music videos found on their website.
The line up also includes
Hello Satellites and
Manny Fox , and opening and closing both market days will be a DJ set by Niko Maersk and Jack May.
Entry Fee
Please note that this edition has an entry fee of $2. As they explain on the website, though they have been offering free entry for five years, the growth of the markets has made it necessary to ask for a minimal entry fee starting from this edition. Children under 12 still have free entry.
Etsy
If you just can't wait to get to the event, note that the Finders Keepers has now opened a shop on
Etsy , where you can browse through their lists or become a follower.
Social Media
You can check out the Finders Keepers
Facebook page , which includes features on designers and updates on their events. They also post regular updates on
Twitter , have a number of boards on
Pintrest and a whole lot of eye candy on
Instagram .
