The Melb market you'll want to Find and Keep
It's coming it's coming it's coming. People wait all year for their birthday, their anniversaries, Christmas. Me? I wait all year for the Finder Keepers Market, and it's coming!

I am SO passionate about supporting local artist/designers and I love a good bargain so this obviously means Markets are my thing. If the FKM was a shoe it would be Louboutin if FKM was a wedding dress it would be a Vera Wang if it was a chocolate it would be Toblerone. This year it combines two of my favourite things, markets and food trucks. But first let me tell you why I am so hooked on this market.

Let me take you back, 2009, my first Finders Keepers Market. Invited by my super crafty friend to "some market out in a shed in Docklands". Now I trust my friend and all, but it didn't exactly sound like a great invite did it. So I decided to go anyway.

Have you ever noticed you can tell what kind of place you're going to just by looking at the people going inside? The same was true here. Just in case you haven't mastered the art of hipster spotting here's a guide courtesy of Dhaka Tribune and let me ensure you that once you've attended this market, you'll be an expert.

As I walked inside this big old shed in 2009 I came across this sight below, an amazing chandelier-esque feature covering the ceiling. An entire display made up of handmade pieces of origami. It was beautiful and I was hooked.

There is something beautiful, truly magical about buying something designed from scratch and handmade. It's not just buying a product, it's investing in a dream, validating their creativity. It's the feeling you don't get when you buy a flat pack from Ikea (no judgement). Each stall I saw I was amazed, at the intricacy, the detail, the ideas, the people.

And then came the taco.

Just when you think your day can't get any better...there's a food truck...serving tacos...with fresh coriander salsa. This was my first food truck experience and it birthed an obsession.

Sorry if I lost you in my memories, but I'm not just teasing you, the market is on again and it's coming soon!

All the info you need to know can be found here but in summary, here's the details from the website.

The next markets for 2014 are:
Autumn/Winter - Friday 25th July from 6pm-10pm & Saturday 26th July from 10am-5pm
The markets will be held at:
The Royal Exhibition Building
9 Nicholson Street, Carlton
Entry Fee:
$2 entry fee
Children under 12 FREE entry!

There are several ATM's available for use at the markets. However be aware these are known to attract big lines each event. Some stalls accept Eftpos or Credit Card, but most will trade cash only.

I know I have made it easy and given you all the need to know details - but have a look at the website anyway. You can check out the designer and what they are selling before you even step foot into the market.

If you are like me and need to know the food options, get excited. This year they are having a "'Farmers Lane", a whole section dedicated to fresh produce, food trucks, coffee and a bar. MY HEART BE STILL.

It's 100% family friendly, with easy access to toilets and food so bring the kiddies along, I guarantee there will be so much for them to look at, they'll be entertained enough.

Now I know we don't know each other, but I feel like you'd like it. Do what I'm doing and use it as an excuse to catch up with friends. I've invited all my close friends on facebook and asked them to bring their families. It's an easy way to catch up, where everyone can mingle, get their own food and wonder around all for a $2 entry fee.
