The ever-popular Finders Keepers Market has been growing since 2008 and is held only twice a year in Sydney. This is one of the best art & craft markets to find that unique Christmas gift and simultaneously support local artists and designers. It returns back to Sydney for the Spring/Summer season on Friday 9 to Sunday 11 December 2016.
The mission of the market is to support local and emerging artists and designers by providing them with an avenue to showcase their work. This year, it will feature over 200 independent art and design stalls inside the massive Exhibition Hall at the Australian Technology Park in Eveleigh.
The event is more of a festival than a market, attracting more than 10,000 visitors. The Finders Keepers Market combines design, art, good food, live music and a fun community spirit under the one roof. It also offers a unique shopping experience to shoppers, with new sellers being showcased at each event.
I attended the Finders Keepers Market last year, and it was a great fun weekend market with an amazing variety of stuff to see and buy. There were many incredible designer pieces by fresh artists and high-quality and trendy products from all around Australia. There were limited edition fashion pieces, dramatic jewellery and quirky accessories, unique homewares, interesting stationery and whimsical art prints. We were exceptionally spoilt for choice!
If you are worried the quality of the goods bought from a small independent market-stall might be compromised, don't be. Every single market is meticulously curated, so the quality and the craftsmanship of the items sold in this market is incredibly high. The only downside is the relatively high price-tag.
Bear in mind, this is definitely not your 'loose-change' marketplace. However, you can walk away with something unique, one-off and you are fuelling the dreams of the emerging artists at the same time. Most stalls accept cards, but I still recommend to bring some cash with you.
The overall market-atmosphere will have a "festival-type feel" with talented musicians giving live performances. There will be gourmet food trucks offering delicious food and beverages. A bar and a cafe will also be open.
