The popular Filmbites Youth Film School is proudly presenting an exciting Holiday Workshop Program for children aged 6 to 13 years this April.Filmbites was named the 3rd Best Film School in the World (Reelshow Survey 2013) and was also the recipient of Best Primary Production at the 2014 Australian Teachers of Media ATOM Awards.The upcoming Holiday Workshop Program features a wide range of interactive workshops to choose from, including gaming, acting, make-up art and filmmaking. All the workshops are held in Malaga.The January 2015 Holiday Workshop Program consists of:[U]Makeup SFX[/U]Hosted by special guest instructor Stephanie Davis, a professional movie make-up artist, these workshops will teach students a range of basic techniques using different materials.Tuesday 7 AprilMonster Make-Up – Design your own monster, then learn some easy yet effective techniques to bring your vision to life (like Dr. Frankenstein!)8-12 yr olds – 10am to 12noon – $55.** Click here to book.
Forensic Make-UpCreate a character and scenario, then learn techniques to create realistic looking effects including the stages of burns and bruises, various diseases, boils, wounds, scars and veins!10-14 yr olds – 12.30-3pm – $70. Click here to book.Intro to Gaming**Join other gamers and learn how to use Gamemaker software, which can be downloaded at home for free, so you can keep developing (and playing!) your very own custom-made game.8-11 yr olds – Tuesday 7 April – 10am to 3pm – $115. Intro to Gaming Workshop (Special Needs):This workshop will teach participants the basics of Gamemaker, an introductory program which allows the user to create a range of different games without coding. The software is free, so you can download it at home and continue developing (and playing!) your very own custom-made game.Having trialled the holiday workshop, participants may be interested in joining the weekly Gaming class in Term 2.Monday 13 April 2015, 10am to 3pm – Ages 11-16yrs – $140 (max 7 participants)To book your free KidsCulture place (you must meet the KidsCulture criteria and supply the voucher and a copy of your concession card by 8 April to Filmbites): please click here if you wish to attend. Acting on a Film SetMany acting principles for stage and screen are similar, but there are definite differences that the actor needs to be aware of when performing for film, including subtlety, naturalism and focus. Make-a-Movie Workshop (3 days)This workshop will be facilitated by special guest instructor Rob Livings, a film producer and cinematographer who has been in the industry for ten years. He has worked with Disney in New York, and on several feature films shot here in WA. His most recent work includes the two latest San Cisco music videos and an upcoming ScreenWest web-series titled Greenfield. Rob found his love for teaching film-making to kids in the US when working at summer camps, and has recently joined Filmbites to continue this passion.Come along and brainstorm an idea, storyboard the scenes, learn about key equipment such as camera, lights and sound, then direct, crew and act to produce your own film! You'll even get to add some cool special effects working in Filmbites green screen studio.Suitable for ages 9-13yrs – 10am to 3pm daily – Wednesday 15 to Friday 17 April (inclusive) – $325. Click here to book.Audition SkillsPresented by Filmbites Head of Acting Shanta Surendran, you'll learn how the casting process works, and important skills on what to do before, during and after and audition. Using a short piece you'll also learn and practice useful improvisation skills and how to handle re-direction.Tuesday 14 April 6-9 yr olds – 10am to 12noon (2hrs) – $70. Click here to book.
