Develop your confidence & screen acting techniques

Drama With A Difference is one of Australia's leading, independent drama schools. With a history that spans over more than twenty years, it is the launching pad of many successful actors.

The school is holding a unique course in Film and TV acting, where participants will learn the skills of acting for screen. However, in addition to this, interested students will be given the option to have their work edited into a professional showreel for acting purposes.

We have a connection with a professional editor who can arrange this for interested parties, at a very reasonable cost.

An actor's showreel is a short compilation of some of their work for industry professionals to view for casting purposes.

Making a showreel is not a compulsory part of the course, but an additional extra that is up to the individual to undertake, or not. For those wishing to become actors, the showreel is an invaluable tool. The better acting agents will not take on a person whose work they have not seen, and showreels are becoming an essential part of obtaining a good agent. They are also valuable because they provide an actor with a website link that they can be provided to casting consultants.

The advantage of this course is that students will have the edge on many other showreels, as they will have had weeks of expert tuition in how to make their scenes believable, before the editing takes place. Teaching is a big part of the course and is undertaken by our most experienced trainers.

Participants will also have their work viewed by casting directors and / or agents. This will include a four hour workshop by one of Australia's leading casting directors. We will also give aspiring actors advice on how to go about starting out as an actor and there will be opportunities for question and answer times.

We will give each student a scene and a monologue to work on throughout the course. They will have the opportunity to see their work on camera, and learn ways of improving as the course progresses.

This course is not only valuable for those who wish to enter the acting profession. It will give any individual the chance to see how they come across to others, and as such, would be a valuable course for anyone whose work involves presentations, or similar activities.

The course is also open to anyone who simply wishes to understand more about the process of screen acting. It is a course for recreational and professional students. We have over twenty years experience in integrating people who attend our courses for a wide range of reasons. No prior experience is required to undertake this course; nor do students need to commit to having a showreel made in order to undertake the course. That is a decision they can make at the conclusion of the training itself.

This course begins on Tuesday October 17 and runs every Tuesday night until December 19, with a 6 hour workshop on Saturday 16 December. The weekly classes take place at Clifton Hill (for two and a half hours, from 7.15pm - 9.45pm) and the weekend workshop takes place at Kew (from 11am - 5pm).
