Book your free tickets here to the free screening of Dreyfus Drei on Sunday 5 December 2021 from 3-4pm at Sydney Jewish Museum, 18 Darlinghurst Road, Sydney. The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Dr Dreyfus.

A documentary created by Dr Ella Dreyfus, an Australian multi-disciplinary visual artist and academic at the National Art School, Sydney, the film was commissioned by the jury of the Jewish Life in Germany Festival 2021 and funded by the Goethe Institute and the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media and will be shown in Germany as part of the celebratory year 1700 Years of Jewish Life in Germany.

Ella's hope is that this film will open up a dialogue for subsequent generations to confront their inherited traumas and reclaim their Jewish lives in Germany. All this stemmed from Ella's curiosity to know more about the Dreyfus's origins that led her on a journey of remembrance, return and renewal of Jewish life.

Ella has said that when her German-born uncle George Dreyfus who is 93 years old dies, the final door will be closed on her family history. He and his brother Richard, her father, were fortunate to escape Nazi Germany by Kindertransport in 1939 to begin new lives in Australia. Her father turned his back on Germany, whilst George retained his childhood reclaimed and retained his German identity and culture. It's going to be an interesting afternoon with Ella herself there, leading the discussion.

The Sydney Jewish Museum holds many interesting events which you'll find on their Facebook event page. They've got a couple of book launches and a couple more film screenings on the agenda, so check it out.
