Take a journey to Fiji and its island neighbours through a festival celebrating Fiji Day and the culture of the Pacific. Parramatta's river foreshore is the location for this vibrant day where reunions occur and new connections are made.
Evolving over the years, Fiji Day combines different elements of interest that include a business expo, a fashion showcase, arts and craft, the Bula kids space with some fun activities, Pacific cuisine and a Coconut Food Fair.
Fijians are well known for their coconut-based diet and a delightful array of tropical ingredients used in tasty taro-wrapped parcels, curries, Mahi Mahi fish and rice dishes, cassava cake and breadfruit. The food fair is sure to bring out the best in island cuisine.
A popular highlight of Fiji Day is the all-day entertainment, over two stages, that will have you enjoying live performances from cultural groups, urban acts and celebrities that showcase a diversity of music, dance and expression. The Pacific Climate Warriors will share stories and songs of action and resilience, whilst fire twirlers convey their unique talent.
Market stalls will see artisans making and selling their works, government and information stalls, and much more. Pick up a shell necklace and learn about Fijian experiences and products, and who knows, they may be the inspiration you need for your next holiday getaway. After all, Fiji has much to love with secluded beaches, snorkelling the beautiful coral reefs, scuba diving, golf and firewalking, amongst other attractions. It's also a wedding destination and honeymoon in one with an archipelago of more than 300 islands.
An official Fiji Day After Party is also planned to complement the day with details yet to be announced. Keep up to date via their Facebook page.
Tying in with the anniversary of Fiji's independence from British colonial rule, Fiji Day is a fun and free family day from 9am-5pm, so drop in and say Bula (hello), try the unique tastes of Fiji's islands and immerse yourself in the wonderful culture and traditions.
