Nutritionist & Life Coach Meeting all requirements to call myself so (i.e. none)
Published April 10th 2012
Mentioning boxing training can conjure scenes where grizzled punch drunk former boxers berate their charges as they lie in a sweaty exhausted heap in the ring. Come to a Fight Fit gym in Yarraville or South Melbourne however and you'll find an environment vastly removed from this macho image. The atmosphere at Fight Fit is very friendly and they cater to the absolute novice all the way through to competitive fighters.

Boxing is one of the most physically demanding sports, therefore those practising boxing need to be amongst the fittest people on the planet. So if you train like a boxer you'll find that your fitness will increase in double quick time along with your self-esteem and self-confidence.

At Fight Fit the instructors are boxers themselves but, far from being grizzled commando types who will rant and rave until your left jab is the equal of Joe Frazier's, their enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport means that they are very supportive and engaging trainers.

The classes are "co-ed" and at the Wednesday morning session I attended there were more females than males, making the class (I would imagine) a very comfortable environment for a woman who wanted to participate. Everybody in the group was at a different level and therefore everyone can go at their own pace - if you need a breather the instructor is not going to demand that you keep going till you pass out.

Using a mixture of boxing techniques, skipping ropes and your traditional body weight exercises (sit ups, push ups etc.) a 45 minute class will give you a fantastic workout that though challenging, is varied enough to keep it interesting. There is absolutely no chance of getting bored at Fight Fit and the class seemed to fly by.

As well as the boxing circuit classes Fight Fit also offers a weights room, strength & conditioning training, fat-loss training and personal training. Memberships to the gym are competitively priced and given you can attend any one of the classes throughout the week with this membership you get very good bang for your buck.

Check out the Fight Fit website for more information.
