The 2012 Red Ball was the 20th anniversary of the event presented by the Fight Cancer Foundation.
The 2012 event was held at Crown Palladium and while on first impression the event may seem pricey at $250 a ticket the ticket price included cocktails on arrival, a three course meal, wine and beer and a show by Hugh Jackman. The host of the 81st Oscars is a seasoned professional and a world class entertainer. He sang with a big band including numbers from "Oklahoma" and "The Boy from Oz".
As a fundraiser you do need to attend this event with cash. There is a silent auction with a large number of items generously donated by sponsors ranging from smaller ticket items like movie tickets and hairdressing consults to one off items such as a guitar signed by the Beach Boys and Rolling Stones tickets in New York. The range was so broad that there is genuinely something for every budget.
Dress is black tie, with a splash of red. The crowd was mature but everyone was there for a great time, including the effervescent wife of trucking magnate Lindsay Fox who jived on stage with Mr Jackman.
