Short of physically being at the game,
The FIFA Fan Festival™ has to be the ultimate way to celebrate a ladies-only sporting event being played out in Australia and New Zealand. Fed Square at the
corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets in the CBD is
on the ball. For the duration of the World Cup -
Thursday 20 July to Sunday 20 August at various times,
Federation Square is dedicated to ensuring you catch all of the action with every single game screened, along with a host of entertainment, food, drinks and activities for you to experience. You won't want to miss this one, so come along and celebrate as part of a community supporting a world first in many ways.
See here for screening times of the games, with Australia playing against the Republic of Ireland on the first day (20 July), then Nigeria on 27 July. It's going to be amazing to watch every single female team play on the big screen; you can just imagine the excitement of this event.
You're also going to love the jam-packed stage program, with 15 days of stage activity on the go. Some of the highlights you may not want to miss is on
Friday 21 July at 7.30pm to see Indigenous singer songwriter,
Sycco, and
Monday 31 July at 7pm to see Australian singer songwriter
Samantha Jade live on stage! Expect to be entertained by DJs, singers, percussionists, football tricksters and dancers and more. Your eyes are going to be glued to the stage. Thank goodness there's no competition, as stage entertainment will only be live when there are no games being screened.
There's also fun activities at the
Game Hub, where you can try out interactive games like reaction walls, a penalty shootout simulator, and trivia quizzes, plus you can create your own content. Comfy bean bags will be available so you can settle in and chill with your mates. You won’t want to leave! The Hub is suitable for all ages and live every day, so try out your skills. Be sure to check out all schedules for games, entertainment, the Hub and more on the
website . Face painting will be provided because it's a necessity to support your team right!
The Atrium will be decked out and ready for kids with sustainable craft stations, a community message wall and chances to read and learn about the FIFA Women’s World Cup and football. Kids can enjoy an exciting sustainable craft workshop and build their very own football! It’s first in best dressed, so be sure to arrive on time to secure your spot for this limited-space experience.
It's not a celebration without food, so be sure to enjoy delicious offerings from a rotating food truck lineup on different days with offerings inspired by the competing teams on the day. Think pizza for Italy, churros for Spain, German sausages for Germany, Jamaican street food for Jamaica… you get it. There's also a licensed bar area on site if you're after a beer, wine, premix or non-alcohol. A burger truck will also be set up right next to the bar. Stay in touch with Fed Sq for updates via their
Facebook page .
