Who says you have to actually go into the MCG to see the cricket? I've got a secret, I can watch it on a GIGANTIC screen sitting in a park eating stunning food. You don't believe me?

Well on 17th of January, you can watch it all on the big screen in the lush gardens surrounding the MCG and at the same time sample delightful foods from other cultures. On this special day you can enjoy the "Victoria Bitter One Day International Series between Australia and India" and explore the culinary delights of their culture at the "Field of Flavours Festival" at the north east side of the MCG.

Peter Kuruvita is the "Field of Flavours" Ambassador and he is bringing together a team of chefs, restaurateurs and culinary experts to temp and delight your taste buds and senses with Indian, Hong Kong, Jamaican, Mexican and Vietnamese food and music.

But, Peter is not just a chef, he is also an Author and TV Presenter who is originally from Colombo, Sri Lanka. I say, their loss our gain.

According to Matthew Lodge, "Peter is best known for establishing the acclaimed restaurant Flying Fish Sydney and currently operates Flying Fish Fiji and Noosa Beach House, Australia."

Peter is equally known for his TV talents in: My Sri Lanka, Island Feast and Mexican Fiesta with SBS TV and The Precinct Studios. When he is not doing all this he is writing and cooking, and has released two cook books: Serendip-My Sri Lankan Kitchen and My Feast" If he can do all this, being the Ambassador of this event should be a holiday for him.

And this is your lucky chance to meet him and taste his fabulous food.

Auto Rickshaw will also be there with Classic Curries, Chaat (Indian Street Food), Savoury Snacks, Tandoori to Regional Specialties, sweets & drinks. I can't decide between the Butter Chicken with Punjabi Flavours or the Chicken Reshmi Naan Kebabs.

I've got it, I am going to drag a friend along and make them buy the other meal and then bribe them in some fashion, which I may not legally reveal here, and make them share so I can taste both these yum dishes.

But alas, I may need to take a few more friends, as Nem N Nem is also going to be there with Vietnamese food and Boss Man, of Yarraville, is going to be there with their tantalising Jamaican tastes. And there is going to Mexican, and more!

But the best would be to watch Australian and India playing cricket and complement that with Indian Food. How could we get so lucky! Well, we are, because DHABA is traveling down from their Kyenton Restaurant to tantalise our taste buds with the best of India.

Now, while you are standing, sitting, interacting, in the beautiful marquees, watching the cricket, Ambassador Peter has upped the anti and shipped in entertainment. There will be Siyer Solo Performance of Bollywood at 3 pm, Rhythm Mania Fusion Bolly Dancing at 4:40 pm, Natya Bollywood Dance Troupe at 7:45, and East Meet West at 8:55 pm. I am feeling a little dizzy with choice. With this type of lineup I am going to have dress for sunshine and twilight and slip slop and slap, and take the train so I do not have to worry about parking. I'm staying all day and night.

Field of Flavours is FREE to the public and will be situated in Yarra Park outside Gate 3 of the MCG. Each site will be well-shaded, complete with tables and chairs. And BEST OF ALL for us "elderly eyed people", it will feature a enormous screen broadcasting the cricket. This must be Cricket heaven.

And if you miss it in Melbourne, they have a Festival in Sydney on 23 Jan 2016 and in Perth on 12 Jan 2015. So if you are traveling around watching the cricket, you get triple awards.

I only have one question, with all this going on outside the MCG, how are we going to keep fans and the cricket players focused on their game inside and not wanting to escape to come to the festival? I think I must leave that up to security.
