Initiated in 1982 by the French government, the festival's goal was to "make music, celebrate music, and expose as many people to music as possible." Still going strong thirty years later, the festival will celebrate its fifth year in Brisbane with 245 musical artists performing at 90 venues.

The artists range from amateurs to professionals, soloists to ensembles, rock bands to school choirs. All genres of music are covered: hip hop, pop, country, jazz, blues, classical, opera, and more. No matter where your musical taste lies, you will find something to get your groove on.

Confirmed venues for 2012 include the Museum of Brisbane's Cabinet of Curiosities, Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Brisbane Square Library, Alloneword Bar, HQ Male Grooming, Woolloongabba Antique Centre, and Can You Keep a Secret?.

You never know where performers will pop up though; past venues include the Goodwill Bridge, a cathedral, train stations, buses, and CityCats.

All musical performances are free; both the musicians and venues donate their time, talent, and space to bring the music to the people.
