Christmas shopping can be stressful as you rush to fit more time for it into your schedule. At the Festive Twilight Markets it was time to spend with the family, walk the dog, eat and unwind, while snapping up some unusual Christmas gifts. For the humble cost of a gold coin donation on entry you also provide support to Rosies on the Street, help for the homeless in the shape of a small hours coffee van.

Forty designer market stalls sat in Frog's Hollow, Queens Park in the gathering dusk. The live music was blues as the sky faded, turned to gold and then to electric blue.

Among the shopping fun were Brown Paper Pantry, proffering a healthy selection of dried foods in paper bags, such as gluten free porridge in cinnamon and date, Puffed Bliss Ball Mix, Australian organic sorghum popcorn, gluten free and vegan. For the cooks, Sesame Cacao to make chocolate slices without having to bake. Magic Pens had kids enthralled because you can draw on yourself and then use one of the pens to erase it. DM Aromas handmade soy candles and wax melts created a sweet atmosphere. Their wax is scented throughout as opposed to most store bought candles. There are no toxins in their products. Northern Exposure Gig Racing Club, Queensland's Premier Sled Dog Club brought their mixed breed dogs and sleds to encourage new members.

There was no shortage of food. So Sweet of Abbey Lane, Highfields tempted with Smartie-spotted goods, lollies and other sweets. Wicked Nics had White Christmas, mint-choc brownies and macaroons. Gecko Grove Fine Foods uses the flavours of local produce to give their preserves a gourmet twist. Mrs G's Gourmet sold Aussie tucker such as meat pies, while there were vans of Chinese food, kebabs, Healthful Habits Mexican, Gourmet Popcorn and Fairy Floss, Pulp Kitchen jerky and burgers. Wood-fired pizza by Slice plus gourmet hot dogs. Dad's cold drinks, coffee, chai, choc tea and sweets. If you can't get enough of market-style food there were your favourite poffertjes and twisted potatoes.

The Festive Twilight Markets theme was not of Christmas, but more of shopping and family fun. Children's' face painting was popular as was the paper plane flying contest. A bottle flipping contest consisted of tossing a partly full bottle of water, attempting to make it land on its bottom, one chance per person. Ashton's Circus heated up the event with flame throwing followed by acrobatic yoga and the trapeze later in the evening.
