The City of Stonnington has quite the Christmas celebrations planned for its community. From Christmas Carols to Christmas in Prahran Square, there are many wonderful upcoming events and activities hosted by local businesses and community groups. Out of chronological order, but I do believe the Christmas Carols are the highlight of the festivities. The return of two of Melbourne's most loved free Christmas concerts - dates are as follows.

Sunday 8 December 2024 from 5.30-7.30pm - Family Christmas at Central Park , 148 Burke Rd, Malvern East; featuring Alinta Chidzey, Kiran Rajasingam and Geraldine Quinn, with more to be announced. Kids activities from 5pm.

Sun 15 December 2024 from 7.30-9.30pm - Carols at Como Park , 305-325 Williams Rd, South Yarra; hosted by the delightful Lucy Durack and featuring Gatesy (Steven Gates), Silvie Paladino, South of the River Choir, and again with more to be announced.

Casey Bennetto returns as Musical Director for both Carols, and both concerts as always, will feature some of Australia's finest vocalists and festival inclusions. Both events will have local food trucks on site so you can take a break from the kitchen for the evening; and of course a very special visit from Santa. Partly fundraiser, all proceeds for the program and candles will go to Very Special Kids , a holistic palliative care organisation for children and young people. A very worthy cause indeed, so buy up those programs and candles on the night.

If you find an event that piques your interest, note it in your diary so as not to miss out.

Wed 20 Nov 2024 to Wed 8 Jan 2025 - Como House of Discovery: Seasons Greetings - tickets $10 to $25 - at Como House, Cnr Williams Rd & Lechlade Ave, South Yarra - Experience the wonder of a traditional Christmas at Como House. An enchanting exhibition that brings history to life and explores the charm of a sustainable Christmas.

Sun 24 Nov 12am to 11.59pm - Santa & Pet Photography - at Malvern Central, 110-122 Wattletree Rd, Malvern. Make sure you book in for your photos with Santa.

Sun 24 Nov & Sun 22 Dec 8am to 7pm - Melbourne's Best Santa Photos - at Santa Photos Australia, 293 Waverley Rd, Malvern East - Online bookings are essential as there's limited availability of sessions and spots cannot be guaranteed for walk-ins on the day.

Sun 24 Nov 10am to 4pm - Family Festive Day & Crafting - at Como House and Garden, Cnr Williams Rd & Lechlade Ave, South Yarra - Spend a relaxing day with your family, enjoying a picnic in the beautiful gardens, capturing festive photos by the Christmas tree, and crafting your very own authentic Victorian Christmas decorations to take home.

Sun 24 Nov 2.30pm - Christmas Concert in Prahran Square - Cato St, Prahran. Join the Melbourne Rainbow Band for a free afternoon Christmas Concert in Prahran Square.

Sat 30 Nov 11.30am to 3.30pm - Free Entry - Prahran Square Record Fair at Centre Square, Prahran Square, Cato St, Prahran. Dig through an amazing collection of thousands of new and used records. The Square will feature DJs spinning vinyl all day on Australia's only Vintage Vespa DJ Booth, 'Moto Bella'.

Sat 30 Nov to Tue 24 Dec 9am to 11.59pm - Malvern East Christmas Festival - at Waverley/Darling Rd, Malvern East Precinct - A street Christmas Festival, come meet and support your local traders and enjoy roving performers, Santa and friends, huge giveaways, activities and workshops.

Sat 30 Nov 10.30am to 12.30pm - Christmas Wreaths Workshop - at Phoenix Park Library, 30 Rob Roy Rd, Malvern East. Free event, but must book. Make a wreath using natural materials to take home. All materials supplied.

Sun 1 to Sat 21 Dec (various dates and times) - Gingerbread House Decorating Class - $55 per person at Como House, Cnr Williams Rd & Lechlade Ave, South Yarra. Learn how to assemble and decorate your very own gingerbread house with fondant, sprinkles, and a delightful selection of sweet treats. All materials provided and you take home the decorated gingerbread house.

Tue 3 and Tue 10 Dec 3.45 to 4.45pm - Arty Crafty Kids Christmas - at Malvern Library, 1255 High St, Malvern. Suitable for kids aged 6 to 12 yrs. Under 12 must have parent supervision. Make cute Christmas crafts, cards, artwork and decorations.

Wed 4 Dec 6-7.30pm - Low Waste Celebrations - at Malvern Library, 1255 High St, Malvern. Aimed at adult audiences, book your spot at this free event and explore how to reduce waste during festive celebrations.

Thu 5 & Thu 12 Dec from 5.30 to 8.30pm for both days - Twilight Christmas Market at Centre Square, Prahran Square, Cato Street, Prahran. Find everything from quirky furniture design and stunning fashion to intricate jewellery and unique paintings. So if you're a lover of all things handmade then look no further. Come along and experience it for yourself!

Fri 6 Dec and 13 Dec - Beama Streamers: Christmas Classics - Classic cinema feature films; 'My Dad's Christmas Date' and 'It's a Wonderful Life'.

Sat 7 Dec 2.30-4.30pm - Festive Craft without the Waste: Handsewn Christmas Ornaments - at Toorak/South Yarra Library, 340 Toorak Rd, South Yarra. A festive and sustainable workshop.

Sat 7 Dec 10am to 12pm - $25 Holiday Greeting Card Workshop - basic card-making techniques, including stamping.

Sat 7 Dec, Mon 9 Dec & Wed 11 Dec 10.30am to 11am at two different venues - Christmas Stories and Songs - Suitable for kids aged up to 5 yrs of age.

Sat 7 Dec 11.15am to 12pm - The Runaway Christmas Tree - at Phoenix Park Library, 30 Rob Roy Rd, Malvern. For kids aged 3-10 yrs supervised by a parent or responsible adult. A high-energy and interactive Christmas Show presented by Carp Productions.

Sat 7 Dec 9am to 10.10am - Fun Festive Fitness Party at Harold Holt Swim Centre, Group Fitness Studio, 1409-1413 High St, Glen Iris - Simple dance and fitness moves to super fun tunes. Reindeer antlers, jingle bells and Christmas hats are encouraged. Prizes awarded for best dressed.

Sun 8 Dec 3-3.45pm - Runaway Christmas Tree event as above but at Toorak/South Yarra Library, 340 Toorak Rd, South Yarra.

Sun 8 Dec 10am to 3pm - Gold coin donation entry - Christmas Market at Como House , Corner Williams Rd & Lechlade Ave, South Yarra. Parking is restricted and public transport is recommended. Brought to you by The Rose Street Market , it's a perfect fun day out, so bring a picnic rug and make a day of it by booking a tour to explore Como House . With a beautiful backdrop, find a huge range of products at the market to help with your Christmas shopping.

Mon 9, Tue 10 & Fri 13 Dec - Christmas Rhymetime at various times and venues, with some dates having a repeat session. Suitable for kids up to 2 years of age.

Tue 10 to Wed 11 Dec 10.30-11am - Christmas Storytime at various venues, for kids aged 3-5 years.

Wed 11 and Thu 12 Dec at various times - Fabric Christmas Trees - at various venues. For kids ages 3 years plus. Perfect for creating bunting, make a small Christmas tree using fabric scraps.

Sat 14 Dec 12.30-2pm - Sustainable Wreath-Making Classes at Como House, Cnr Williams Rd & Lechlade Ave, South Yarra. $200 per person. A creative, eco-friendly twist at a sustainable wreath-making class. All materials and equipment provided.

Sat 21 to Tue 24 Dec at various times - Christmas Wrapping - at 140 Glenferrie and 110-112 Wattletree Roads, Malvern. Get your gifts wrapped in return for donations to the Malvern Emergency Food Program.
