Festive Scenes in Adelaide City

When I walked into Rundle Mall recently, I wondered where are the Christmas decorations? I guess after the works done to the Mall this year, and a complete transformation to Victoria Square, funds were stretched to go towards decking the halls. Even our giant Santa on the David Jones building has not been erected. What's going on?
Then suddenly I saw someone in a red and white suit. This friendly balloon busker had a chat with me and a friendly smile for the camera.
I went in search of decorations and found these gorgeous trees on the mall side entry to David Jones in pretty pinks and silver. There are also some on the North Terrace entry to the store.
The city sounded like Christmas with these delightful young people playing some tunes of the season. But still not a single decoration outdoors at all to be seen.
You will need to venture indoors to find some signs of Christmas. Inside the arcades and in the stores it certainly looks a little more festive. Here is the Rundle Place arcade where the new Hariss Scarfe store is, looking down to the food hall.
This huge wire framed reindeer in in the Myer Centre. It is richly decorated in silver and gold, and is so big you have to walk underneath it. This would be my favourite of the day.
However these adorable Santa and sweet little nutcracker wooden decorations also made me smile. They are decor decorations for the home, being too big to hang on a tree. These decorations are for sale in the Christmas shop from the Myer store.
The window displays look fabulous at this time of year, and are a must see for a stroll around town to see some Christmas scenes. Here is the window at Haighs chocolates on beehive corner at the start of Rundle Mall.
A festive treasure hunt would be a fun school holiday activity with the kids, going into the stores and finding as many as they can. Or if you have some time to spare, take an hour or so and walk around the city shops and arcades, alone or with a friend. Stop and listen to the buskers playing Christmas tunes. It's amazing what you can find, see and hear when you are not distracted from shopping or carrying parcels and just enjoy.
