Fed Square at the corner of Swanston and Flinders Streets in the city is all set to be the Festive Headquarters this year from 25 November to 25 December 2022. It's a magical place in the city that draws the community to come together to enjoy a variety of events throughout the year. At this time of the year, think giveaways, festive workshops, carolling choirs galore, Koorie Klaus, Santa Clause and the marvellous Huxleys, classic films screening and more that takes you through to the evenings.
The 16metre-high twinkling centrepiece Christmas tree has taken pride of place, ready for the hoards of people who flock to the Square for their selfie moments. Check out the program and plan your festival of fun and frivolity. click on links given below for more information and timeframes.
25 Nov - 25 Dec - Christmas Square - Each evening from 9pm until 11pm, on the hour, you will be able to enjoy a special Christmas Tree sound and light display. It's a Festive season must-see!
3-4 & 10 Dec - Festive Workshops - Four amazing workshops to choose from. Book early as capacity is strictly limited.
9 Dec - As Camp As Christmas - Embracing the camp, the magical and the decorative, this festive celebration is sure to make the yuletide gay. Enjoy performances, cinema and more.
10 Dec - Koorie Krismas - Experience the magic of Koorie Krismas with free activities for families throughout the day and performances from local First Nations performers.
16 Dec - Christmas in the Wizarding World - Grab your wands and dress up in your favourite Wizarding World-inspired costumes – there are some amazing prizes to be won for Best Dressed Individual, Best Dressed Couple and Best Group Effort.
18 Dec - Pillars of Light - Pillars of Light has sourced local and known multicultural, faith and Indigenous artists and choirs that will perform during the festival.
21 Dec - Gravy Day Christmas Choir - Get in before they ring the last bell and join a flash-mob style choir of Paul Kelly's iconic 'How to Make Gravy' at Fed Square.
The Firefly Zipline is back after a sell-out season for you to enjoy from 16 Dec 2022 to 28 Jan 2022. See Melbourne from an all-new perspective as you fly over the Yarra River! The first and only urban zipline in Victoria, the popular activity is a thrilling way to take in the stunning views of the CBD, the river, Princes Bridge and the Melbourne Arts Precinct.
Stay in touch with Fed Sq for all events throughout the year, including Fed Free Workshops. There's the old school Fed Fitness for Fed Free Workshops: regular fitness, educational and fun-filled sessions, absolutely free at Fed Square! Choose from the limited edition summer series, or a selection of weekly year-long classes, or attend them all! From Yoga to cocktail making, photography to IT classes, Qigong and Tai Chi, or Belly Dancing, you're bound to find something you like. Keep in mind workshops are capped at a maximum of 40 people.
The Not-So-Silent Cinema from 2-4 Dec comprises of a selection of free silent films accompanied by some not-so-silent bands. Pull up a deckchair and enjoy this free program where you'll be treated to a gelato each evening from Cups n Cones. There's a selection of 9 flavours to choose from until exhausted, with a limit of 1 per person. If you decide to dine at Fed Square before the films, remember there's a 'free parking when you dine' offer. Head into the city and do Melbourne again.
