Fabulous Festival Fun
The definition of a festival is a time of celebration or a program of cultural events and March might well be Festival Month in Victoria with numerous festivals set to kick start Autumn 2019.

There are the classics like Ballarat's Begonia Festival and the Port Fairy Music Festival as well as others showcasing a variety of lifestyle options.

Here are 5 of the best.

Macedon Ranges Music Festival

When: Saturday 2nd March, Midday til 10 PM.
Where: Gisborne Steam park, Webb Crescent, New Gisborne
Cost: Adults $30, Concession $25, Youth (12 to 17 years) $10.
Getting There:

New Gisborne is 55 Kilometres north of Melbourne, about a 50-minute drive via the Calder Freeway/M79.

Now in its 6th year, the Macedon Ranges Music Festival is a not-for-profit festival with 100% of ticket sales going to the Cambodian Kids Foundation.

The festival is an event for all ages with music ranging from folk and jazz to blues and rock.

It's a family-friendly event featuring an alcohol-free Youth zone with jumping castle, face painting, performances by young musicians and a host of kids activities.

For the grownups, there's great music, market stall, a bar and a great selection of food.

Ballarat Begonia Festival

When: Saturday 9th to Monday 11th March, 10 AM to 5 PM daily.
Where: Ballarat Botanical Gardens, Gillies Street North, North Ballarat
Cost: FREE
Getting There:

Ballarat is 123 Kilometres northwest of Melbourne, just ova a 90-minute drive via the National Highway/M8.

Apart from showcasing the magnificent Begonia the annual Ballarat Begonia Festival has something for everyone ranging from children's activities, gardening tips & displays, live comedy, craft and garden markets, food and beverage outlets, art exhibitions, spinning & weaving and much, much more.

The festival is held in the magnificent Ballarat Botanical Gardens on the shore of beautiful Lake Wendouree.

The Ballarat Begonia Festival is one of the great FREE events on the Victorian festival calendar.



Port Fairy Music Festival

When: Friday 8th to Monday 11th March.
Where: Venues in and around Port Fairy
Cost: 3rd release tickets are on sale now and cost Adults $290, Youth (13 to 17 years) $110. Children 12 and under Free.
Getting There:

Port Fairy is 288 Kilometers southwest of Melbourne, just under a 3 drive via the Princes Freeway/M1 and the Hamilton Highway/B140.

The Port Fairy Folk Festival has been around since 1977 and has grown to become one of Australia's, and indeed the world's, great music festivals.

More than 100 acts perform annually at Port Fairy and past years have featured the likes of Sinead O'Connor, Tim Finn, Paul Kelly and Archie Roach.

The 2019 line-up includes Kasey Chambers, Nick Barker, Paul Livingstone, Renee Geyer, The Weeping Willows and Tim Rogers to name just a few.

Apart from music, the Port Fairy Folk Festival features theatre, visual arts, spoken word performances, children's programs, interactive workshops and street theatre.

Castlemaine State Festival

When: Friday 22nd to Sunday 31st March
Where: Venues in and around Castlemaine
Cost: Cost varies from one event to the next. All tickets are available online, by telephone at (03) 5472 5123 or in person at the Festival Office, 50 Mostyn Street, Castlemaine.

Castlemaine is 129 Kilometres northwest of Melbourne, about a 90-minute drive via the Calder Freeway/M79.

The Castlemaine State Festival is a 10-day program jam-packed full of free and ticketed art, music, film, culture and fun events staged in one of Victoria's most historic gold-rush era town.

Now in its 42nd year, the festival attracts audiences from around the country, more than doubling Castlemaine's population for the duration of the event.

Popular music, dance, theatre, contemporary film and a celebration of works from South Korea are all great reasons to head on up to Castlemaine for the 2019 State Festival.

Bendigo Craft Beer and Cider Festival

When: Saturday 23rd March, 11 AM to 7 PM
Where: Tom Flood Sports Centre, Park Road, Bendigo
Cost: General Admission Adults $39, Youth Booking (17 Years & under) $18 must be accompanied by an adult. Go to the website for details on VIP Packages, gift Packages and Group Concessions.

Bendigo is 153 Kilometres northwest of Melbourne, just under a 2-hour drive via the Calder Freeway/M79.

Visitors to the 2019 Bendigo Craft Beer and Cider Festival will be spoilt for choice sampling over 100 beers and ciders from the likes of Bridge Road Brewers, Grand Ridge, Southern Bay Brewery and other brewers from right around the country.

Food vendors will include Julies Gourmet Kitchen, Flame Tree Pizza and East Side Smokers among others.

Spend a great day out taste-testing fabulous beer and cider, enjoying mouth-watering food while being entertained by artists such as The Erica Hawkey Band, the New Savages, Bill Barber and Paper Souls.
