Each time I flee from Melbourne to Adelaide I look forward to unwind. From the sleek design of the new airport terminal, with no crowds and no hurry you immediately start to relax and forget about city life.

The "Cibo" coffee chain provides authentic Italian expresso, lattes, cafe freddo (essential in the hotter months) and a full bar and meals. Yes its purely Adelaide's true blue coffee chain and I support it, along with Haigh's Chocolates and SA Valley wine.

A stroll through the Adelaide Central Market is bliss for the 'foodie' and a visit to Adelaide's many art galleries and museum gives time for reflection without even stepping into the many churches that surround in this fair city.

Did I mention festivals?

Lady Adelaide is the Queen of Festivals and let me list them - Adelaide Cabaret Festival (June), Sala and Adelaide International Guitar Festival (August) OzAsia Festival (September), Adelaide Film Festival (October) Feast (November) Adelaide Fringe Festival, Womadelaide, Adelaide Festival of the Arts (Feb - March), and the Come Out Children's Festival to make it's debut in May 2017. Who said Adelaide was boring - only those who have never visited.

South Australia is home to several renowned wine regions the Barossa, McLaren Vale and the Clare Valley. It's also home to people like Maggie Beer, who open her home and kitchen for you to visit. Not to mention the places along the way, like Hahndorf for a taste of Germany in the Adelaide Hills and Angaston for fruits, preserves and marinades.

Lose yourself

The reason I adore Adelaide the most, is that she prepares you to enter the Australian Desert. Whether up the Stuart Highway or along the Oodnadatta Track - just go there and lose yourself or find yourself. There's little ego in the desert, and its 'unAustralian' not to go in deep to the heartland of our real country to meet the real inhabitants and find your red centre.

Queen Adelaide I love your festivity, hospitality and adventure, and I will be your loyal muse for a long time.
