Spend a weekend away at one or both of these family events
Western Australia is lucky that there will be two of these exciting festivals, with the first one being held at Shark Bay in March 2018, and the second one in Geraldton, in April, 2018.
Both will be well worth attending and would be a great family outing to stay several days in either of these towns. There is a lot of varied accommodation at places close to both these events, with Geraldton having the most and being the bigger place of the two.
SHARK BAY
This promises to be an exciting event. The inaugural festival is a family-friendly long weekend at the stunning location of Shark Bay.
You can watch some fabulous footage of kite surfing in this area at the following video clip:
One thing that Shark Bay doesn't lack in the summer is the wind! The Festival of Winds and Water will celebrate the wind and the fun that can be had on the water.
When the wind isn't blowing, there's the incredible wildlife of Shark Bay to check out, and of course, this area is near Monkey Mia which is famous for its dolphins.
GERALDTON
The Wind on Water Festival in Geraldton will be a two-day Festival, and will feature the following:
Kite displays
Kite making
Workshops
Art Exhibitions
Extreme water sports
A water show
Fishing competitions
Kinetic sculptures on the beach
Music
Food
There will also be a headline act who will finish up the proceedings of the festival with a concert, and this has been announced as The Veronicas.
ABOUT THE VERONICAS
Australian pop duo, The Veronicas, are identical twin sisters, Lisa and Jessica Origliasso and this will be their first visit to Geraldton and also their first confirmed show in Western Australia for 2018.
The twins are popular Brisbane-based musicians who will wrap up the two-day WoW Fest on 22nd April, 2018 at a ticketed, all-ages concert.
The Veronicas rose to fame in 2005 after the release of their debut studio album, The Secret Life of… and this album quickly shot up to No.2 on the ARIA Album Chart.
At this festival, it is expected that you will see a glimpse of what is on offer on their new and fourth album to be released in 2018. There will also be a supporting act and this will be announced in the coming months.
GENERAL
The Mayor, Shane Van Styn said the public would not want to miss the WoW Festival, and "it's going to be truly spectacular. We want this event to be something that people from all around Western Australia will put in their calendar."
The event was born from two of Geraldton's natural elements - wind and water. Both these elements play a key part in the Geraldton lifestyle and have therefore been chosen as the event's theme.
Geraldton City has received an $80,000 grant from the Government's Building Better Regions Fund Community Investment Stream, to put towards the running and entertainment at this festival.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash said the Building Better Regions Fund was turning dreams into reality. "I congratulate the successful applicants, who were chosen from a field of 545 applications," she said.
WoW Fest will take place on 21st and 22nd April, 2018 and will encompass everything Geraldton has to offer, including their fine weather, water sports and family activities on the foreshore.
