History of the Festival of the Chariots
This festival which honours The Lord of the Universe is believed to have originated about 5,000 years ago, in India. The parade is based on a famous story of Krishna from the Indian scriptures. It involves taking the deities or gods on chariots through the streets so that they can offer blessings. The mood should be one of love, harmony and devotion. The Festival of Chariots was introduced to the west in 1967. It is celebrated yearly around the world in major cities such as Moscow, New York, London, Rome, Berlin, Paris, and Brisbane of course.
