A festival for anyone looking to make a change in their life
The eye-catching imagery of an Avant card caught my eye as I waited for a takeaway coffee on Tuesday. The bold typography read Festival of Change; also intriguing. I picked the card up, flipped it over and scanned the affiliated and sponsor logos, an old habit from my festival management days. Logos included the Southern School of Natural Therapies, Billy Blue College of Design, Australian Natural College of Beauty and the William Blue College of Hospitality Management.
It's normally at this point that I loose interest in a new festival. Generally the logos are corporate partners of predictable charity partners, however this was different. I read the text above: Join us at the inaugural Festival of Change. The 3 day festival will be chock full of events you can listen to, learn from and participate in so you can pick up a new skill and be inspired to change your world.
I was in love! What a great concept. Alternative colleges presenting their courses and materials in an innovate manner. The brains behind this festival are Think Education, who umbrella 75 accredited campus-based and online universities. I am personally at a point in my life where I think I would like to change industries, but do not want to commit to a long course, fees and all, then find out I'm not really interested in that industry after all. Does this ring true with you? Never fear, the Festival of Change is here to help!
The festival lasts for three days, from the 7-9 November and will host over 100 free events across seven venues in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Events will cover industries such as design, health, beauty, tourism, catering and business and take the form of workshops, demonstrations, guided tours and exhibitions.
Organisers have coined this a festival 'for anyone looking to make a change in their lives'. The full program is being release on 12 October, however Festival organisers tell me that the top attractions for Melbourne will include:
Super Food Rooftop Night Market
Pop Up Design Market
Street Party with DJ, live performances from Strange Fruit and Live art
Health and Wellbeing Workshops
Loving Earth presents Chocolate Meditations
Movember Presentation (Friday 7th)
Thank You Movement presents 'Simple Choices to Change the World'
