19 reasons to attend the giant Busselton Festival
This is a festival that is a good excuse to get out of the city and attend, or if you live south of Perth, don't miss this!

The Festival of Busselton remains as relevant today as it was over 50 years ago. This was long before the region carried the guise of "Events Capital WA".

These all start at approximately 7.30 pm and entry is by gold coin donation. Please bring folding chairs and rugs for this outdoor deckchair theatre.

2. CHILDRENS' PIRATE COMPETITION
ARRRR - The pirates are back - now, listen me hearties!
Pirates aged 12 years and under are invited to take over the sail
training ship Leeuwin.

Here the best pirate outfits will be judged by the ship's captain, with prizes being awarded for the best three outfits in three age categories.

The good ship Leeuwin will be moored more than a kilometre out from shore along the Busselton Jetty.

3. STORY READING
Join amazing Pirate-man, Michael Speranza for an incredible pirate adventure show packed with laughs, tricks, puppets and suitable for the whole family.

4. SAND CASTLE COMPETITION
The Sandcastle Competition will be held on the Jetty Beach between the Equinox and the Goose, and registrations will be taken from 1.45 pm on the day.

At the close, the judges will choose winners from various age and family categories.

5. TOMBSTONE WALK
This walk will commence on the Thursday at the Busselton Historical Museum, 76 Peel Terrace, and on the Friday, will commence at Pioneer Cemetery gates.

It will feature a guided walk through St Marys Cemetery and a viewing of historical Group Settlement displays at the Museum.

6. BUSSELTON TROTS
Busselton Trot Club meetings will be held at Churchill Park. The gates open at 5.30 pm, and the first race is at 7 pm

7. LOG CHOPS
The ever-popular log chops take place at the Vasse Oval, Kaloorup Road, Vasse, directly opposite the markets held in the Vasse Hall. The events include underhand, standing block and tree pegging.

8. BEARDS & BRAIDS
This is a FREE workshop where you will learn how to do your children's hair! This will be run by qualified hairdressers and all equipment is supplied.

9. VASSE ESTUARY WALKS
The Busselton Naturalists Club is holding two walks through the Ludlow Tuart Forest National Park, down to the edge of the Vasse Estuary, to see some of the 35,000 birds found on this important wetland.

Starting at 8.30 am from the gate on Tuart Drive, 300 metres towards Busselton from Layman Road corner, and this is a 2 km walk.

10. ANTIQUE & COLLECTIBLES FAIR
The Busselton Collectors Club has run the annual antique fair for over 30 years and there will be 24 stalls selling antiques and collectables in the main hall.

You will be able to get a FREE market appraisal on both days and it will be held at Community Youth Centre, 45 Bussell Highway. Entry cost is $3.

11. TEDDY BEARS PICNIC
This will be at Rotary Park, Busselton and is an event for all ages. There will be fun activities for families, and BYO teddy, grandparents, picnic rug and friends!

12. BATTLE OF THE BANDS
This will be held at the Busselton Skatepark and the new Youth & Communities Activities Building.

There will be a SPECIAL GUEST, to be announced at a later date.

13. 43RD PETTICOAT LANE MARKETS
There will be over 100 stalls at this fantastic market which will be held at Queen & Prince Streets in Busselton's CBD. On offer will be:

14. FESTIVAL QUEENS
Since 1964. community groups and charities have raised funds by nominating entrants in the Festival Queen competition.

15. DUCK DROP
Busselton Surf Life Saving Club will hold its annual duck drop competition - buy a raffle ticket, and each ticket number is allocated to a toy yellow duck. The ducks then get released into the ocean to race to the shoreline using the current to move them. The first three ducks over the line will receive cash prizes.

16. CHILDRENS TREASURE HUNT
Coloured markers are buried and exchanged for a maximum of 4 prizes per child. There will be thousands of prizes and this is for children aged 12 years and under. It will be held at the Busselton beachfront, west of the jetty.

17. FESTIVAL CONCERT
This concert will be held at Signal Park and include Murphy's Lore.

There will also be food and drink stalls, but no alcohol.

18. AUSTRALIA DAY BREAKFAST
Busselton Geographe Bay Rotary Club will hold its annual Australia Day breakfast for charity.

The morning will start with a march down Queen Street from Victoria Square at 7.00 am, with speeches, awards and a naturalisation ceremony from 7.15 am.

Breakfast will be served from the Busselton beachfront at 8.15 am and will be $5 for adults.

19. FIREWORKS
After the Festival Concert at around 9 pm, move to the Busselton foreshore for a spectacular fireworks display from the Busselton jetty.
