Music, Art Show, Markets, Volleyball Clinic and a lot more
There's a festival happening at the Upwey High School (1451 Burwood Highway, Upwey; (03) 9754 2838) on Saturday the 14th of March from midday to 5pm. Established in 1937, the high school is located in the Dandenong ranges, 40kms east of the city.
A free volleyball coaching clinic, for all primary school students 7 to 13 years old from the Dandenong ranges area, will take place in the school stadium from 11am to midday. Featuring elite level coaches, this clinic caters to players from beginners, those just trying out the game, to regular players. An exhibition game with local high schools will take place with a sausage sizzle and refreshments available.
Pre-loved Tecoma offers lots of recycled, vintage, quirky designer clothing, along with handbags, shoes, jewellery, vinyl records, and homewares at bargain prices.
Maria Inglis Cakes and Cookies does not have a website or Facebook page, but you're going to get a chance to try some of her delicious delights. If that's making you hungry, MrDuk will be there, with his stand of delicious pork (how does pork sliders sound?), duck products (wraps perhaps), and delicious tarts from his Eat My Tarts business. Indian street food and dosa specialist Babaji's Kitchen will also be there with their colourful stall, to tempt your tastebuds.
The Yarra Ranges Council has sponsored the return of the art show from the Upwey Arts Festival. However, it's been renamed the Streeton Art Show, and the prize money has increased. There are no set themes or mediums for the entries and the categories are as follows:
Lower Primary (Prep- Yr. 3) $100;
Upper Primary (Yr. 4-6) $100;
Secondary (Yr. 7-12) $200;
Open Category (all ages) $600
For more information or to make an individual entry, check here. Entries can be made by individual students of the school, or a bulk entry can also be made. Keep in mind the closing date is on the 12th of March 2015.
You will be serenaded from 1pm to 5pm by a number of bands, to showcase the musical talent of the high school and surrounding community. There'll be a number of stages around the school, showcasing 'Scott got Groove and the Groovettes', the 'Tecoma Primary School Choir', 'UHS Concert Band', 'UHS Stage Band', 'Dinosaurs in Chemistry', and Our Last Word.
The 'New Horizons Band' will perform at 1.30pm, and it's basically an open rehearsal for over 20 members of the band, performing songs from the upcoming Bells project.
If you'd like to perform at this music concert, it's not too late. Check here if you're interested.
