I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

Cycle Your Cares Away
Go to Newcastle for a fun cycling experience on the Fernleigh Track rail trail. The 16km smooth cycleway was completed in 2011 and has provided many people hours of fun and fitness. There are quite a few places where one can park near entrances to the track such as Adamstown or Belmont.
Cycling along here can be as easy or hard as you like, although the gradient is gentle there are a couple of sections that rise steadily providing a challenge as well as the reward of a fast descent. The scenery is interesting ranging from urban backyards, Australian bushland, coastal swamps and historical artefacts. There are plenty of places to stop for photographs or to sit and soak up the sounds and smells of the bush.
The path is well signposted with directions to the nearest water, shops, towns and toilets as well as information markers describing the history of the rail line and its development into a rail trail. As the path is well used by cyclists of all skill levels, runners & walkers it is particularly important to take care in the busier sections near the towns.
Just off the track near an industrial estate at Redhead there is a great little cafe that offers friendly service, clean toilets, tasty, filling inexpensive food and good coffee. Follow the sign and the red carpet to Redhead Industrial Take Away & Cafe (Monday-Friday 5:00am-3:00pm and Saturday 7:00am-3:00pm) for a satisfying break where you will be made to feel very welcome.
