There's something very beautiful and comforting about felt and wool and that's probably why we love wearing it so much. But those materials lend themselves to so much more than functional garments. Felt and wool are versatile materials which can be used for many other purposes, including sculpture, jewellery and other objects.

Sydney artist and illustrator, Marta Madison, is a designer who lends her creativity to a number of artistic endeavours. In addition to her business as an illustrator, specialising in bridal portraits through her business, Drawn to Fashion , Marta also loves to create wearable art using wool, silk and other materials. She runs a multidisciplinary art practice from her studio in the TWT Creative Precinct at 27 Atchison Street, St. Leonards.

And during August and September, you'll have the opportunity to see some of Marta's creativity in an exhibition being held at the Foyer Exhibition Space, 31 Victor Street, Chatswood.

This exhibition, which has been two years in the making, will give you the opportunity to see Marta's inspiring and innovative designs made from wool (sourced from local sheep farms), silk and gold threads as well as her sketches for the designs. Her work fuses traditional felting with a modern twist which will capture your eye and imagination. The exhibition will display felted and hand-painted scarves, bowls, journals and a range of bespoke wool jewellery.

"Through my work I try to seek out ways to surprise, to push the boundaries of possibility, and consider how the wearer of my garments will feel and cherish the final product", says Marta.

In addition to the exhibition, Marta will be running a class at the Workshop Arts Centre on Thursday 6 October, from 10am to 4pm. Numbers are limited, so book online here .

Don't miss this special exhibition which is on for a limited time only.
