Explore the world of wet felting and unleash your creativity

The Fabric and Felt Studio is offering an exciting NEW series of interactive Felting Classes in 20214.

Led by Shelley Burton, this is an opportunity to try your hand at the fascinating art of wet felting and meet awesome 'crafty' friends in a fun, encouraging and supportive setting.

Creating felt from wool is one of the oldest known textiles. It is a highly versatile craft that turns wool (both natural and synthetic) into fabric without any need for spinning and weaving.

In this series of workshops, you will have the opportunity to discover the unique art of wet felting and produce something beautiful and original by the end of the session!

All are welcome, whether you are new to the wonderful world of felting or looking to expand your skills. All required materials are supplied.

  • Felted Flower

    In this class, you’ll delve into the rich history of felt-making, discovering how ancient techniques have influenced and inspired modern wet felting methods.

  • Step-by-step, you’ll be guided through the entire process of wet felting, from laying out the foundation to designing and shaping your flowers using fine merino wool rovings.

  • Felting Pods - Working With "Resist”

    This is a fun and hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the art of wet felting and master the super cool ‘resist’ technique. With this technique, you’ll use a special flexible material to stop the wool fibres from sticking together, allowing you to sculpt and shape your felted creations in awesome 3D.

  • Painting with Wool

    Whether you have a specific photograph in mind or simply an idea you’d like to bring to life, this workshop will teach you how to transform wool fibres into a beautiful piece of art using wet felting techniques.

  • In this workshop, you will learn the step-by-step process of laying out fine merino wool to create a picture with depth, texture, and vibrant colours. Discover how to manipulate the wool fibres to achieve your desired effects.

  • Wet Felted Scarf

    Get ready to dive into the world of felting as you choose between two exquisite options: a Silk Georgette or Wool Base scarf, available in white or black.

  • During this hands-on workshop, you’ll have access to a vibrant array of materials, including a wall adorned with coloured light merino wool fibres, silk yarn, wool yarn, and stunning recycled silk sari fabrics. These materials will ignite your creativity and help you bring your envisioned design to life.

  • Wet Felting - Surface Design and Texture

    Want to learn how to create different textures and designs in your wet felting work? Then this class is for you! Learn how to create amazing surface textual designs using wet felting techniques. You will make a sampler scarf using different surface design and texture techniques, using the colours of your choice.

  • Wet Felting-Journal Covers Using Recycled Fabrics

    Learn the art of wet felting to create a unique and eco-friendly journal cover using recycled fabrics. Wet felting is a process that involves binding wool fibres together with the help of water, soap, and agitation. By repurposing old fabrics, you will not only create a beautiful journal cover but also contribute to sustainable crafting!

    Individual tuition is available, as well as private group classes upon request (a minimum of 4 people is required).
