It was so good the first time, Felix Super Yacht is back
After taking a trip to Port Lincoln for a week, the Felix Super Yacht is back in Port Adelaide! Its surprise visit to McLaren Wharf two weeks ago attracted thousands of people to come down and see how the other half live in this 70m yacht, previously valued at $100 million. However, the identity of the owner still remains unknown.
Felix is back with its full crew of 18 and onboard residents, who didn't get to see enough of South Australia the first time they were here. Having already been and stayed in a few of the wine regions, they are back for more... and who can blame them!
The vessel is not easy to hide from the Port, measuring 3 and a half cricket pitches long, with 12 guests accommodated in 6 cabins, a gym, jacuzzi, cinema, golf driving range and a glass elevator serving 3 decks. The owner's suite is located on the upper deck, with the whole deck devoted to his use. For interior photos, see the Adelaide Now article for a sneaky peek.
Felix was built in Germany by Amadeus Yachts in 1969 as a research vessel and has had previous names such as Komet, One Eagle and Amadeus. With top speeds of 15.5kn from two 1875hp Caterpillar 3512B-DITA diesel engines, in 2007 it was converted to a luxury yacht for French billionaire Bernard Arnault. There are claims that the Former British prime minister Tony Blair with his wife, Cherie, and U2 rock star legend Bono have cruised on this yacht together.
Finding somewhere to sit and enjoy the views must be a nightmare!
In 2016, it was renamed Felix with London-based Reymond Langton studio designing the exterior and Francois Zuretti designing the interior. In 2017, Felix was ranked 181th out of 200 in the world's largest yachts list. The largest yacht in the world, ranked number 1 was the 2013 Azzam, measuring a staggering 180.61m in length.
So if you missed it first time round, or enjoyed losing yourself on the Wharf, imaging yourself sailing into the sunset, come down and see this beautiful vessel before it leaves again. Felix is due to depart for Melbourne but with no expected departure date yet.
