I was asked by a friend to come and watch his son do a comedy stint at the in Fremantle, and although I was a little dubious at travelling all that way for a few hours of comedy, I plucked up the courage and went.

Well, I have to say that what I expected and what I experienced were at two complete opposites of the expectation scales. I expected a small pub, looking like some hippy throwback from the '70s with a small damp and dark room, watching terrible comedy and drinking flat wine. Well, I was surprised! The hotel, although still holding a lot of its old charm, was modern, relaxing and warm.

The hotel had half-price food on Thursdays! This made the trip worth it just for that! It also made up for the 5-minute walk in the drizzle (luckily, I am a woman, so had my umbrella with me!) The food was delicious too, so 2 meals and 2 drinks was less than $50! You gotta like that for a cheap evening out!

The comedy room was upstairs and I was super impressed by the talent on show for the evening - even though most of them were newbies to the stand-up comedy scene. A good time was had by all listening to the laughs and shouts in the room.

I loved the fact that they opened up the cigar room and bar upstairs for those who wanted drinks, so we didn't all have to go downstairs to the bar. These were lovely rooms and you could sit in there and relax as you wanted to for the evening.
