Visiting this zoo was one of the greatest experiences in my daughter's life - and mine, too. I patted a koala for the first time - I'm pretty sure I wasn't a real Australian until now!
I was amazed that my six-month-old baby was genuinely fascinated by all the wonderful creatures.
The unique thing about Featherdale Wildlife Park is the incredible access to the animals. Several kangaroos and wallabies were happily wandering around, eating from the hands of children and placidly accepting pats and paparazzi alike. Unusual birds pecked at crumbs in the kiosk, and the baby emus were NOT shy!
The park is very much focused on Australian animals, which means some of the creatures that might usually be passed over in favour of lions or elephants get to come into their own. The echidnas were hugely entertaining. Just watch out for the four-metre crocodile, and try to join one of the feeding times if you can!
