Feast with friends at Semaphore beach
Take an Amusement Park Ride at Semaphore Foreshore
The beachside suburb of Semaphore is a vibrant place to visit, and full of fun things to do for all the family. In fact there seem to be more festivals in Semaphore than almost anywhere else outside the Adelaide CBD. And if you've somehow missed the festivals, then you really should try the summer twilight markets.
Feast on the Foreshore is the latest in the line-up of Semaphore attractions, a family fun day bursting with free things to do. It's one of the Adelaide Fringe Festival free events, and it's going to be fabulous fun for kids of all ages.
Bring your family to join in the excitement of the Cake Competition, or dress your dog in its most glamorous outfit to win a prize in the Dog Show. Vie for victory in the infamous Feast Tug of War, kick off your shoes and show your best moves in the Rainbow Colour Dance, or go shopping for booty at the many artisan and handmade goods market stalls on the Semaphore foreshore.
Oh did I mention food? We know that you're going to work up an appetite on the day, so count on food market stalls selling everything from ice cream to hot dogs (and some more exotic things in between).
The day kicks off at 10am, with judging for the Cake Competition from 11am. Do you make a luscious lemon tea cake? Perhaps a colourful rainbow marble cake or a cheerful chocolate delight? Bring along your creative culinary masterpiece to be judged by local celebrity chefs Justine Hall (former My Restaurant Rules winner and owner of Lickerish) and Steph Taylor (owner/chef of Red Lime Shack). Please register here to compete in three different categories - Best Taste, Most Queer and Most Original to win fabulous prizes.

Join in the Tug of War at 1pm, gather a team of friends together to battle it out in the ultimate test of strength (my bet is on the cake lovers winning).Registration is open here.
From 2pm our four legged friends are in the limelight. The Dog Show prizes will be awarded for Best Outfit, Looks Most Like Their Owner and Best Trick categories. Put your pooch on parade, and make it earn its keep!

During the day there will be two Colour Dances for you to join in. These dances originate from the Holi festival, and signify unity and brotherhood. On this feast day people visit friends and relatives to wish each other well.
Feast on the Foreshore will debut a new exhibition These Boots Are Made for Walking, a visual art display where you can learn about the experiences, dreams, ambitions, or something related to theLGBTIQ community members through their shoes. The exhibition will be auctioned later in the year with the proceeds going towards Feast's Queer Youth Drop In Centre.
Be Inspired in the Colour Dance by Tunes from Fresh FM (Image: Supplied)
Popular community radio station Fresh FM is providing DJ's and chill house sounds with free live musical entertainment throughout the day. Of course the Semaphore amusement park will be open for all the fun of the Royal Show (at about half the price). Admire the reptiles in their Fantastic Fauna farm, pick up some freshly cooked fish and chips then stroll on the Semaphore jetty, or have a snoop around at some of the weird buildings in the back streets. There's no shortage of fun things to do near the Semaphore foreshore.
Brought to you by the Feast Festival and Semaphore Mainstreet Association and supported by Fresh FM, Feast on the Foreshore is inclusive to all the family regardless of sexuality. It came about because many in the gay and lesbian community (LGBTIQ) want to break down the artificial barriers, as we all have family members we need to reach out to.
Feast on the Foreshore is Hosted by Princess Laya (Image: Andrew Beveridge, Abscreative Professional Photography)
Host of the day is drag queen sensation Princess Laya, one of the leading divas in the Adelaide gay scene. Princess Laya has made a name for herself as glamorous, sassy and well respected amongst her punters. Better known as one of the show cast members at The Mars Bar, Princess Laya has previously produced successful stage productions and has spread her wings as a performer and hostess.
Come to Feast on the Foreshore, enjoy all the free things to do, and have an awesome day of family entertainment and fun for kids at this free event. For more info see the website and Facebook event page.
