A fresh approach to taking care of your skin

One sunny mid-week afternoon, I ventured to the eastern suburbs in search of Fayshell. Having recently opened, I was excited to be an early adopter of the new membership-based skin clinic. My skincare expertise is pretty dismal and having not had a facial for a couple of years, I was grateful for the chance to get ahead of the curve. And this was definitely the place to do it.

I easily found the dusk pink and orange colours of Fayshell along the retail façade of Bronte road in Bondi Junction. I was drawn into the clinic by the futuristic design and the radiant, welcoming staff. It was clear that the owners, Katelin Gregg and Ella James, intend to offer a unique experience here. After being guided past the front counter, I discovered the layers of calming spaces that make up the Fayshell clinic.

The LED Lounge was particularly intriguing. As it was explained to me, the LED lights work similarly to the photosynthesis process for plants. The varying wavelengths of light can be used for multiple skin benefits including preventing acne breakouts, enhancing collagen production and decreasing inflammation. Finally, a piece of technology that I'm interested in! The LED Lounge is included in the membership at no extra charge or you can book a standalone LED session for $59.

For this visit, I tested out the First Time Fayshell package which includes a skin consultation and a customised facial. I met my dermal therapist Maddie who showed me to the treatment room, bathed in shades of coral and peach. Echoes of Janelle Monae's song Pynk played in my mind as I settled into the ultra boujee space to talk skincare. I had specific concerns as a Rosacea sufferer so the consult was valuable for discussing my needs. Maddie shared plenty of advice and gave me assurance that the facial would be customised to my sensitive skin.

During the facial, I was pampered with vitamin and botanical cleansers and serums while I chatted to Maddie whose 7 years of experience became my new source of skincare intel. The products she applied felt refreshing and I was treated to massaging globes to promote lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness. Maddie explained how I can build up my skin resilience and what treatments would work well for me. After the facial, I was given some product samples to try and was emailed a personal skin plan.

While I realised there is so much to learn about skincare with salicylic acid peels and microdermabrasion now part of the norm, I also know that I don't need to be an expert. The therapist at Fayshell had taken the work out of navigating skincare treatment for me. And although my sunny afternoon had turned to a gloomy night as I headed out of Bondi, my refreshed face and newfound skin confidence had brightened up my week.
