Come for a cruise and learn the ropes on STV One and All
A view of the deck of the One and All from the bowsprit
At a loss for a special present to give Dad for Father's Day? He's got all the gadgets he needs, his shed's full of tools - but how about giving him a day out commanding the helm or shinning up the mast of a tall ship?
The One and All, South Australia's only actively sailing tall ship, was built by a group of volunteers in 1982 and commissioned in 1987. The design of the ship was based on the original rig of an 1850's brigantine. She joined the 1987-88 First Fleet Re-enactment and has been sailing regularly ever since. The ship is mainly used for personal development sail training voyages for youth but also offers day trips, twilight cruises and voyages for people of all ages.
The ship is as romantic at night as it is in the daytime
All over the world, tall ships provide opportunities to preserve and develop the ship skills which were once so vital to our economy. These skills are indelibly bound up with the history of South Australia's settlement as well as its trade with other states and the rest of the world.
If you've got a head for heights, this gives the perfect view!
A day sail with the One and All is so much more than a dolphin-spotting cruise - it's a voyage back in time. Under the watchful eye of the experienced crew, passengers can set the sails, or even scale the rigging just like a sailor of yesteryear but with the added assurance of 21st Century safety gear. Once you are up with the yard arms, high above the deck, you will get an entirely different perspective of this incredible ship and the seas below. And from such a perfect vantage point you are very likely to be the first to shout: "Dolphins ahoy!"
For those with less adventurous spirits, a Day Sail includes all the usual cruise luxuries, such as simply relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere in our "Millionaire's Row" deck chairs, and enjoying delicious on board catering, with tea, coffee and cool drinks.
So don't delay - bookings are filling up fast for the first sail of the season on Father's Day weekend, Saturday September 6. Report for boarding at McLaren Wharf, Port Adelaide, at 9.15, ready to sail at 10am.
After that, there's something for the kids - two Open Ship Days on September 19 and 20, featuring International Talk Like A Pirate Day. More information about both events and much more can be found on the One and All website, and bookings can be made by calling Annie on 0432 495 603 or by Email: email@example.com
