A must add on your bucket list of culinary places to visit
As you walk through the doors of Fat Rupert's you are welcomed with a smile and great hospitality. It is hard to believe that this establishment has been opened for just five months ... and the question that is lingering on your lips is why wasn't this establishment opened years ago?
The service is second to none, with very friendly wait staff; the owner is great fun to talk to and of course, if you are lucky, you might get to meet the Head Chef who creates the delightful, fresh and mouth-watering food.
The meals are seasonal and change every twelve weeks, using only the finest, freshest and local produce.
The menu is small and all the meals are great to share. Most of the meals are gluten free too!
We had the Watermelon & Mint Salad, which consisted of watermelon, grape tomatoes and feta cheese with mint. I have to say I was unprepared for how good these ingredients would be together; the sweetness of the watermelon mixed with the feta is like a marriage made in heaven. This salad was irresistible.
Next we tried the Salmon Croquettes with tartar. Well, this is probably the most interesting and delightful way I have eaten salmon. The crispy layer on the outside, with the smooth and fresh salmon inside, just left you craving for more and of course, the tartar sauce was the best I have tasted to date.
The Mini Yeezy Burgers were such a treat. The cheese melted in the mouth and the pickles just added that final touch to these superb little creations. The meat was so juicy and the sauce so flavoursome - my palate was begging for more...
Finally, I couldn't resist, I had to try the Wing Pops which are wings coated with this amazing house made sauce, served with house made blue cheese dressing. The flavours of the sauce were so finger licking good. It had the right amount of spiciness, then you get hit with this maple sweetness; it was fiery yet sweet at the same time.
All the flavours of each meal unite so well together. The after taste of each flavour lingers around your palate, forcing you to have another mouthful. It is so hard to resist and fight the temptation of saying enough, regardless of how full you are; you keep craving these flavours, it is almost an addiction and your senses force you to start to plan your next visit.
What makes it even more special is that most of all the dressings, sauces, cheeses are all made in house, even the hamburger meat is grinded here too. And you can really taste the freshness of each ingredient and you can feel your senses awaken!
Unfortunately, I had no more room to indulge in the pie of the week dessert (every week there is a new dessert pie to try out). At the time, the pie of the week was Pecan with Maple Syrup and it was slightly disappointing that I had to have it take away. I must say I felt like driving all the way back there for another serving. The pastry was so crumbly and melted in your mouth and that was just the beginning...
The delicious pie of the week (this one was a Pecan Maple Pie)...
And now to the amazing bar side. Fat Rupert's has some spectacular beverages, including startling wines, craft beer and unique cocktails. The cocktails are a must try and there is something for every taste bud. I couldn't resist and had to try two in the hope that I will not fill up quickly so I can indulge more in the pleasurable food.
The prices are reasonable considering the great produce you are greeted with.
The whole atmosphere is welcoming and comforting which makes you feel like you are part of the Fat Rupert's family. There is the option to sit outside too, so you can grab that nice ocean breeze or you can take comfort inside, which is nice and cosy giving you an intimate feel.
One of the cocktails we tried (this was the Warhead - Mojito with Watermelon & Spiced Apple...yum)...
It is very easy to find as they are located right on the corner of the main road in Bondi, with bus stops conveniently placed directly opposite and less than 10 metres walk near the restaurant. There is road parking, however, Bondi can get quite busy and parking might be a bit difficult to find.
It is also perfectly located to the beach with a twelve minute walk or a two minute drive.
It is almost criminal not to visit and a must restaurant to add on your bucket list of culinary places to try!
