Neil LaBute's celebrated play 'Fat Pig' will have a strictly limited run at Chapel Off Chapel this October.
'Fat Pig' was originally an Off-Broadway production in 2004 and has since been staged in Los Angeles, London, São Paulo and Hong Kong to much acclaim and now it is Melbourne's turn to see the play that the New York Times deemed "... the most emotionally engaging and unsettling of La Bute's plays since Bash …".

Melbourne production company Lab Kelpie Productions is producing the play (it is their debut production) and they have gathered a remarkable cast and crew. The local production of 'Fat Pig' will be directed by AFI and Logie nominated actor Daniel Frederiksen and will star two-time Green Room Award nominee Lyall Brooks (The Pride Red Stitch, The Heretic MTC), Cassandra Magrath (Wolf Creek, SeaChange), Logie winner Patrick Harvey (Neighbours) and Lulu McClatchy (Bogan Pride SBS).
'Fat Pig' is widely regarded as a challenging play, as it presents a realistic portrait of our celebrity-fuelled culture and unrealistic body expectations. The bitter-sweet play centres on Tom, a young single professional who by chance meets Helen, a sweet, funny, self-confident librarian.

The two instantly hit it off and start dating but Tom goes to great lengths to conceal the budding relationship from the shallow Carter, his best-friend and co-worker, and Jeannie, a co-worker he used to date. However, unbeknownst to Tom, Carter and Jeannie deliberately set-out to find out just who Tom has been spending his time with and when all is revealed, Tom, Helen, Carter and Jeannie are each forced to question their own ideals and what is important to them. & #8232 ;Neil LaBute himself described 'Fat Pig' as "a study in weakness... [and] an examination of what it means to love".

This engrossing play was the recipient of an 'Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play' in 2005 and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for 'Best New Comedy', also in 2005.
'Fat Pig' will play at the Chapel Off Chapel from Wednesday 9th to Sunday 20th October 2013. Performance times are as follows;

Tuesday-Saturday: 8pm
Saturday Matinee: 4pm
Sunday: 6pm

Tickets are now on sale and are priced at $37.50 for adults and $30 for seniors/concession card holders.
