Fat Bobs , the Diner with a Big Difference, sits in an old factory building in a service side street in Moorabbin. If you like a no fuss but excellent burger meal in a quirky neon environment, take a visit to eclectic Fat Bob's Diner for a meal like no other. An ever popular venue, it is alive with colour, music and chatter.

The place has high ceilings, open spaces and a lifetime of memorabilia adorning the ceiling and walls. It's an extensive collection. From the Golden Fleece petrol bowser that bids you "please wait to be seated" to the white teethed air hostesses that adorn the restroom walls, there's stacks of reading to do while your burger is being created.

With the tour of all of the nostalgic paraphernalia over, it's down to the real reason this place is so well patronised: the burgers and the beer. The former are huge (as opposed to just very big) - 180g grass-fed beef - and come wrapped in foil for ease of eating. Each type of burger is one of a kind, most incorporating Fat Bob's special sauce.

There are American style burgers such as the Jackie O, Fat Bob's, Hummer, Simplex, Spartan, Hudson, Vita and Goodrich varieties. There are also vegetarian and gluten free burgers. When considering extras, don't go past the onion rings, the zucchini chips or the chicken bites as they, too, are really tasty and come with a variety of specialised sauces. Even though you've probably no room left by now, try the small, round doughnuts with chocolate and/or strawberry dipping sauce. For the kids there's a special separate menu.

Providing the perfect companion to Fat Bob's burgers is a range of craft beers. As with the food menu, the beer choices are extensive and interesting. Ranging from lager/pilsener through rale/golden ale, wheat/white beer, Indian ale and dark ales to domestic beers (even a gluten free variety), they all wash the burger down really, really well. Thunder Road Beer is on tap and a variety of other drinks is available.

I've dined at this fantastic place on several occasions and I've not yet seen a disgruntled customer. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food is worthy of a place in "Hamburger Heaven" and the cost is reasonable. This Bar and Grill is extremely popular so regardless of when you intend to visit, it is really wise to book.
