Fasta Pasta at North Adelaide is part of a nationwide chain of restaurants, which was first established in 1982. As its name suggests, it prides itself on serving fresh pasta. The restaurant attributes this to the use of the best quality flour and eggs to make the pasta. Actually, the name is a bit of misnomer as they also serve a good range of non-pasta dishes.
Fasta Pasta offers a lunch special from $9.90 in which you pick a sauce to accompany the pasta of your choice. With a bit of extra cost, you can choose a pasta type other than the "standard" varieties or add a side dish. During our visit, we chose to order Penne Pasta with Amatriciana Sauce and Chicken Tortellini with Verdure Sauce. Both the pastas we ordered were cooked al dente. The pieces of pork belly in the Amatriciana sauce complemented the penne pasta nicely, with a hint of spiciness from the chilli. The slightly sour taste of the Verdure sauce helped to bring out the flavour of the chicken tortellini with the firm texture of the vegetables contrasting wonderfully with the tortellini.
While it is normally only available for dinner, we were lucky to be able to order the Porchetta during lunchtime. The roast pork belly had tender meat set off by the crispy crackling which we consider to be a key part of enjoying roast pork belly. Its flavour was the perfect partner to the refreshing tomato and cucumber salad with the bread croutons adding a lovely crunch.
Fasta Pasta offers complimentary bread with each meal and while the crust can be a bit tough for some, the bread is very soft. The Garlic Bread was toasted to perfection, but we felt it could use a bit more garlic to make it more delectable.
