"What do you call this again?" Davis, the new kid in Homicide, asked.
"Body from the sky." Cooper grunted.

Fast Fiction is an anthology of flash fiction, ie. very short stories, in this case only 101 words each. This makes this book handy for times when you don't have long to read, such as while on a bus or a short break from work, or when you have a 'book hangover' after finishing something really good and just aren't ready to commit to a new novel yet.

Many of them are crime fiction, which makes sense since the author is a licensed private investigator. Some of the had an Elmore Leonard vibe, which I mean as a great compliment speaking as a huge Elmore Leonard fan. If they had been the introductions to longer stories I would definitely have kept on reading. The stories vary in tone, from funny to more serious, but the quality is consistent throughout.

Fast Fiction is a fun anthology of very short stories, good for picking up when you only have a few minutes to read. If you enjoy it, apparently there is a sequel to come, and you can even contribute prompts for future stories.

If you're a fan of short stories, you might like to check out Take-Out And Other Tales of Culinary Crime , or 55 Slightly Sinister Stories .
