Handmade knits, toys, gifts & crafts
Down the main road for shopping in Campbelltown, Queen Street is home to some gorgeous historical cottages. One of these cottages known as the 'Farriers Arms Cottage' is the home of Campbelltown's Craft Society.

This cottage previously known as Airds Cottage, it is believed to have been built in the early 1940s . By the 1950s it was licensed by Edward Fitzgerald, a blacksmith who had his blacksmith shop at the back of the cottage. The front of the cottage at that stage was the local pub and Inn. The cottage is now owned by Campbelltown Council and houses the Campbelltown craft society.

The craft society has over 50 members and the craft stall itself is totally run by volunteer members!

I recently visited the cottage with my Mum and my nieces. It is a truly magical place. If you love handmade crafts, toys, clothing, jewellery and gifts then this place is definitely for you. All of the 50 members hand make all sorts if gifts and treasures and display them here for public viewings and all items are for sale.

The cottage is very welcoming and the volunteers display some major pieces out the front to encourage passers-by to come on in and believe me you should. They have it set up so nicely with five rooms set up with all different handmade items - yes, five.

Entry into the cottage is free. When you first walk into the door you will come to the stationary section and the jewellery section. The stationery section has notebooks, address books, pens, glasses cases, card holders etc that have gorgeous folk art painting on them.

The jewellery is mostly in a large see through cabinet and the bright colours and shiny crystals instantly capture your attention. So many beautiful shiny necklaces and earrings in heaps of different colours, it's hard to know what to choose. The great thing about these pieces apart from the fact they are homemade is that they are also great value. They vary in price but start out from around the $10 mark and even sets are only between $30 and $40. They really are stunning. They had some gorgeous little rings for girls made out of beads in different colours for $4.

The next room has a whole mixture of paintings, tablecloths, towels, face washers, cushions, slippers, potpourri bags, arts, bags, hand bags, tea towels, door stoppers, phone, glasses and tissue holders, hot water bottle covers and even covers for golf clubs and so much more. A tiny room off this one had handbags, shoulder bags and suitcases for sale.

Beside this room is a gorgeous other room with baby/children's clothes set out to buy; hand knitted clothing, rugs, bonnets, booties, bears, bibs etc in mainly pink and blue. It is the perfect place to buy a lovely present for a newborn bub.

Next door to this room is the toy area. It features gorgeous old fashioned wooden toys like cars, trucks, a rocking horse, a service station, plaques, animals and sewn animals. It also had some of those old fashion hair brush and mirror sets. Little boys would love the woodwork.

The day we visited most of the clothing was displayed out the front. Dress up outfits like clowns, wizards, witches and fairies, gorgeous girls dresses and tutus and The Wizard of Oz costumes. Handmade and take your breath away stunning. It is easy to see how much love and hard work goes into every piece and even the clothing and dress ups are reasonably priced.

This craft cottage also has pottery, cottage craft, glass wear, china painting, jams and preserves made up into gorgeous jars covered in material and ribbon. There is also leatherwork and patchwork and let's not forget the teddy bears of course.

Whether it be for a new baby, a toddler, yourself, a lover or a friend, you will definitely find a delightful piece to take home. So if you want a one off gorgeous gift for someone that you care about then this is the place to find great quality handmade crafts, clothes and gifts by the passionate and talented artists of Campbellton.
