I have found the best meat pies I have ever eaten. It came along by chance browsing the Mornington Racecourse Market , where I was taking photos of stalls for a WeekendNotes article.

Greg, from a stall named Farmhouse Country Cooking, was telling me about his family business, which has been baking and selling goods at markets for 33 years.

This stall is always busy and has many regular customers, apparently some regulars go right back to when they first started markets in 1979.

I bought a few pies as they were so popular. I couldn't resist (not that I am a big pie eater) but I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I was not disappointed, far from it actually. Why has nobody told me about these pies previously? They deserve awards!

I tried the Beef and Burgundy pie and cooked it with some home made chips for dinner. The pie has chunky beef meat infused with red wine and onions. Yum!

The children tried the Stockman's Pie, with mince meat and vegetables. They didn't say much but there were only a few crumbs left. I think that speaks for itself .

If you want to try their pies you can find Greg at all of the Craft Markets . Unfortunately I don't have an email or phone number to contact him but you can definitely find him at the markets.

Other pies on offer were: Chunky Steak, Sweet Curry, Steak & Mushroom, Beef & Beer, and Chicken and Leek.

Enjoy!
