Next time you're in Yarralumla pop down to the shops and grab a bite to eat at
Farmers Daughter. It's a bright little breakfast and brunch spot, perfect for whiling away a few hours over a cup of coffee and a good side of eggs.
Farmers Daughter is worth checking out mainly for their breakfast menu, which is a lot more interesting than just your simple scrambled eggs with a bit of bacon. Instead there's something like the
Breakfast Burger, with poached eggs, bacon, baby spinach, and hollandaise in a brioche bun,
Salmon I Am, which also has poached eggs, served alongside smoked salmon and a feta salad.
Of course there are non-egg options too, with the crowning glory of the sweeter choices being the
banana bread. The banana bread comes thickly cut and topped with caramelised banana, coconut, and farm house cream, it's moist, crunchy, and sweet. For a more savoury option there's the
No Ordinary Soldiers, or how about zuchinni and sweet corn fritters with rocket, avocado, and horseradish cream.
There's also a cabinet full of lunch options, like baguettes and salads, alongside sweet things like cakes, macarons, and pastries. Unfortunately at times the macarons can be a little bit dry and brittle, which could mean they've been left on the shelf for a little too long. The flavours are there, but a stale macaron isn't much fun.
Farmers Daughter pops with bright colour, especially with all its yellow accents. Even if you're just grabbing a coffee, it can put a little extra spring in your step. There's outdoor seating if you want to catch some rays on a sunny day, and inside the skinny cafe still has plenty of space.
Coffee is the main drink of choice, but they've also got a range of teas, soft drinks, and milkshakes for you to choose them. It's a pity they don't do their own freshly squeezed juices, even though they do stock the delicious
Emma & Tom's juices, it's always nice to have the option of having a fresh one. They dress them up a bit by putting them in a glass bottle with a pretty paper straw.
A stop in at Farmers Daughter in the morning can brighten up your day. Their food is simple but special, and there's even friendly table service. Farmers Daughter are open Monday to Friday from 7 till 3, and Saturday and Sunday 8 till 2.
