Far Cry 5 is an open world first person shooter game by Ubisoft. It was released on the 27th of March on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It was the fifth instalment in Ubisoft's Far Cry video game franchise. The Far Cry series follows a simple formula: a character is dropped in an exotic landscape and pitted against a villainous group. The character must then travel across the map finding weapons and making allies while also locating and destroying any outposts run by the bad guys they can find.
Far Cry 5 was the first game in the series set in North America. In the game, you are a junior deputy who visits the rural community of Hope County, Montana which has been taken over by a murderous doomsday cult called the Project at Eden's Gate.
The Project at Eden's Gate is led by "The Father" Joseph Seed and his siblings John, Jacob and Faith. Eden's gate is a violet home-grown terrorist group who have access to cash, a large number of weapons and military grade aircraft.
The group seized Hope County through violence, seizing properties, taking hostages and brainwashing local residents through mind-control music and a drug they call Bliss.
At the start of the game, you arrive with several other officers from the U.S Marshal Service to arrest Joseph Seed. You put him in cuffs and force him to board a helicopter, but before you can get away, the cult swarms the craft and brings it back down to the ground allowing Joseph to escape.
You end up being rescued by some local residents who put you in touch with a resistance group that is rising up against Joseph and Eden's Gate. For the rest of the game, you will travel around the map, destroying cult properties and compounds, rescuing hostages and finding allies, and doing work to help the resistance.
Far Cry 5 is rated MA 15 and is definitely NOT for children. It contains graphic imagery, bad language, violence, religious themes and drug references.

Far Cry 5 is a very fun game for adults. There were several things I liked about this game. I really liked the plot and its theme. When I heard that the next Far Cry game was going to be set in North America and would have a religious cult as the villains, I was intrigued. Joseph Seed and his siblings were fantastic antagonists. The Father was charismatic and ruthless and reminded me of real-life cult leader Jim Jones and the viciousness and strong religious tones of Eden's gate made me think of the Sons of Jacob from TheHandmaid's Tale.
Another highlight of this game was its setting. Hope County, Montana, is an absolutely gorgeous place, with sparkling lakes and lush forests and towering mountains. The game features an open world which means you can explore to your heart's content. You can grab a fishing pole and go fishing or wander through a forest or get behind the wheel of a car and go driving. But be warned! Cultists are everywhere. They've taken over farm houses and they're standing on the top of barns and they come and go down the roads in trucks and vans. If they spot you they will shoot at you so be careful.
Joseph Seed is the Father and the leader of the Project at Eden's Gate
Far Cry 5 was the first game in the series to feature a customizable protagonist. I really liked that. The game allows you to choose their gender and clothing and hairstyle.
I picked a female character. What really made me happy was that when I came to pick out an outfit for her none of the options were highly sexual. I dressed my character in jeans and a hat and a t-shirt. Practical and smart and realistic! Well done Ubisoft!
I love video games that give female characters clothing options that are appropriate for their environment instead of outfits that are just ornamental.
Far Cry 5 is a violent game. You will get into a lot of firefights and will snap a lot of necks but there's nothing in the game that I found too disturbing. The characters swear a lot but that just added to the game's charm in my opinion like when one character shouted gleefully "Well, slap my titties!" after I returned her prized helicopter to her. The game can be hard in parts but you can recruit hired guns to come with you on missions to help you take down the cultists.
Recruit members to join the Resistance and take on Joseph's followers and win back Hope County
In conclusion, Far Cry 5 is a fun game that has an excellent story, great characters, well-written dialogue, a huge world to explore and a well mapped out single player campaign. If you are a fan of first-person shooter or open world games you should give this one a try. The Resistance needs you.
