Cheap tickets to a cunning theatre performance
Introducing children to the theatre is a wonderful thing to do. Roald Dahl's charming novel Fantastic Mr Fox is coming to Brisbane in September and luckily the production will be on at the Brisbane Arts Theatre.
Brisbane Arts Theatre's school holiday play Sept 2012
I say luckily because tickets are extremely affordable and luckily because audience enthusiasm (i.e. noise) is not a problem. If you have never taken your young ones to a play before, then Brisbane Arts Theatre is the perfect place to introduce them to the pleasures of live performance. It is also a wonderful activity for the school holidays.
Fantastic Mr Fox, a children's classic, is about a family of foxes and their attempt to outwit three horrible mean farmers, Boggis, Bunce and Bean; "one fat, one short, one lean". Mr Fox is superbly cunning and of course the hero of the story. As my resident young "Dahl expert" advises me "Fantastic Mr Fox is a really great story but in the film there were unfortunately too many deviations from the plot which ruined it for me".
The play is based on the book, which should please purists, and is about 90 minutes long (including interval). There is a cast of 20 local performers, the youngest of whom is six (about the same age as many of the patrons).
Little theatregoers are truly welcomed here. The animated and shuffling audience, whose excitement and exclamations are quite vocal, is seen as a measure of appreciation and not a reason for parents to feel embarrassed.
The magic keeps on going after the show has finished. It is almost a tradition at the Brisbane Arts Theatre for some of the cast to gather after the performance for photos and autographs much to the young theatregoers' delight.
Street parking available. Book ahead as performances do sell out. Bring pens for autographs. Book online or by phone between 10am and 2pm weekdays.
