Patty, "Bart on the Road," The Simpsons
Patty and Selma Bouvier, both voiced by Julie Kavner, are identical twin sisters from the American animated sitcom, The Simpsons. Patty and Selma are confident, plus-sized women, and life-long chain-smokers. They are known for their strong dislike of their brother-in-law, Homer Simpson, and for having deep gravel-sounding voices. Ever since their first appearance on The Simpsons back in 1989, the show has frequently made fun of Patty and Selma’s weight. The Simpsons has had a problem with fatphobia since it began. Lots of characters, not just Patty and Selma, have been mocked for their weight. As a kid it used to bug me how often Patty and Selma were subject to fat jokes. I didn't like them as characters for the longest time because I thought they were bad stereotypes that did more harm than good. It wasn’t until I watched the season 33 episode “Lisa’s Belly” that my opinion of them changed. After Lisa puts on some weight, she goes and speaks to Patty and Selma, who encourage her through song not to give a crap about what other people think about her. I was really taken aback with how much I liked the episode and Patty and Selma’s song. The episode made me realise just how admirable Patty and Selma are as characters. They know that they are fat and that people find them ugly but they do not care. They refuse to be defined by their weight and society's expectations of women and I think that is a great attitude to have.

“Are you two pulling a Clueless and trying to set me up with another teacher? Not interested. I like firemen, a lot.”
Ms. LaBonz, "Mission Impos-slug-ble", Bob's Burgers
Ms. LaBonz is a reoccurring character on the animated sitcom Bob’s Burgers who is voiced by H. Jon Benjamin. She is a middle-aged woman with fuller figure who works as a fourth-grade teacher at Wagstaff School. She doesn’t care much about setting a good example in front of her students. She has stolen school supplies, been caught smoking outside, and gambling on the school computers. Ms. LaBonz has a poor relationship with a lot of her students and doesn’t care if they hate her. One of her most interesting relationships is with her student Louise Belcher. The two of them share a lot in common. Louise is nine-years-old and likes to challenge authority a lot. She can be cunning and manipulative, loud and aggressive, has a sarcastic sense of humour, and raises her voice a lot when she talks back to adults. Due to their similar personalities, Louise and Ms. LaBonz argue with each other a lot. In the episode "Touch of Eval(uations)" Louise is excited when she finds out that the students will be given a chance to review their teachers. She hates Ms. LaBonz and wants to get revenge on her for being mean to her. Ms. LaBonz explains that she was only hard on her because she thinks she is gifted and only ever wanted to motivate her to be a better student. I really liked that they added this scene. It showed the viewer that Ms. LaBonz was not all bad. She does care about her students and can see that Louise has the potential to achieve great things.

“No, you never give up. I give up. And then you say, "don't give up." And I say, "okay," and then we do that over and over, and now that I'm saying it out loud, that can't be fun for you. Oh, God, do you want a divorce before we die? I don't deserve you. Listen to me, I'm gonna do for you what you do for me. I am not giving up. We are gonna get outta here. I am gonna Linda this!”
Bob Belcher talking to Linda, The Bob Burger’s Movie
Bob Belcher is the main protagonist on the American animated sitcom Bob’s Burgers and one of the best modern fathers on television. Voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, Bob Belcher is the owner of the restaurant Bob’s Burgers, which he runs with his wife Linda and their children Tina, Gene, and Louise. Bob is passionate about cooking and running his restaurant but is often anxious and stressed out because his bad business decisions often result in them being barely able to pay rent. What makes Bob such a great character is the love that he has for his wife and children. He always makes an effort to be present at home and to be involved in the lives of his wife and children. Bob is middle-aged and has what can be described as a dad bod. He is out of shape and gets out of breath every time he is forced to run. The most loveable thing about Bob is how much of a goof he can be sometimes. His dorky singing and dancing always brings a smile to my face.

"They weren't kidding when they call me, well, a witch."
Ursula singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls", The Little Mermaid
Ursula was a half-human, half-octopus sea witch and the main antagonist from the 1989 animated Disney film The Little Mermaid. She was voiced by Pat Carrol and based on the character of the Sea Witch from Han Christan Andersen’s 1837 fairytale “The Little Mermaid.” Her appearance in the film was heavily inspired by the American drag queen Divine (1945-1988) who was known for her teased up hair and heavy makeup. Ursula is considered to be one of Disney’s most iconic villains and a fat icon. It is not surprising that people love Ursula so much. It is common trope in media for the fat character to be depicted as dumb, stupid, bumbling, or grossly unattractive. Ursula is none of these things. She is a confident bad bitch who is unapologetic about her size and a powerful enemy to Ariel. Her roots in drag culture can really be seen in her song “Poor Unfortunate Souls” where she moves her hips erotically from side to side and her eels twirl around her arms like feather boas. Pat Carrol delivers an amazing performance as Ursula in the 1989 movie. She is manipulative, wicked, and positively evil. I just love her.

"I think the reason I got all these guy friends and no boyfriend is because I don't really wanna date any of 'em. I don't need to feel like I'm waiting to be noticed. I know who I am and I'll know what I want if and when it ever comes along."
Fionna Campbell, "Fionna and Cake", Adventure Time
Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake is a spin-off of the Adventure Time franchise. It was developed by Adam Muto for young adult audiences and premiered on Cartoon Network on 31 August 2023. The show follows the adventures of Fionna Campbell and Cake the Cat, gender-flipped versions of Finn the Human and Jake the Dog, who live in an alternate reality version of the Land of Ooo that exists without magic. Fionna and Cake the Cat were first introduced in the season three Adventure Time episode “Fionna and Cake.” From the moment that Fionna and Cake were introduced in Adventure Time I loved them as characters. I thought that Fionna was kick-ass and wanted to see more of her. When it was announced that Fionna and Cake were going to be getting their own spin-off I was so excited. I adored Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake. It was great being able to see Fionna be fleshed out more as a character. Fionna is just as fearless, tough, and adventure-seeking as Finn. I can’t wait to see more of her adventures with Cake.
